NCSA To Build $53 Million, 13-Teraflop Facility
Quite a few readers submitted news of a distributed system to be built by four U.S. institutions (mostly) out of IBM computers, and paid for with a whopping grant. DoctorWho and november writes: "'The National Science Foundation has awarded $53 million to four U.S. research institutions to build and deploy a distributed terascale facility...' Now I wonder if we will be able to run Windows XP Luna interface without a problem. - Not a Troll ! Does anyone miss the hardcore command shell days, I remember BBSing, being a SySop, now those were the days!
Maybe they will put this system to good use, like finding cures, mapping human DNA, or the million other positive things. But you have to ask your self, I live in 2 bed room apartment and my BGE (gas and electric) is almost $200 a month, I dare not imagine what the bill will be for this thing !
