It's now common knowledge that the database was brought down with a packet storm directed at port 3306, in retaliation for OSDN/Andover refusing to settle the sexual harassment case involving the female network admin who was fired after refusing to engage in oral sex with one of the editors.

Well, if this were a professional outfit, you might say that the damage to their reputation was the worst of it. However, since Slashdot only has a reputation as a giant pile of bug-infested spaghetti code, that doesn't apply.
Oh, and don't expect any sort of "openness" about the recent problems from the Slashdot higher-ups. Only outfits such as Microsoft, who have reputations to defend, ever publish explanations of bugs.
