This attack has been used against what are seen as the enemies of the 'Open source movement' which include many large American companies such as Microsoft as well as many American media companies such as Time-Warner-AOL. The Slashdot Effect could have a potentially crippling effect on the American computer industry and I feel it is justified to offer my own advice on this problem.

what is the point of this? with all the stresses in life after september 11, building a pc should not be one of them. That is why there are companies that build preassembled systems. Its a novel idea, but so far DELL and Compack have shown that it CAN be profitable. Macontosh has pushed the idea further by selling preassembled systems that cant be upgraded called apple computers. They are call apple computers because you throw them out when you are done using it similar to an apple. Every year you buy a new system and dont have to bother with the stress of upgrading, its a very successful idea. Another new development is having windows preinstalled on your computer instead of having to buy it. So far this has been a very successful approach and microsoft is pushing to have windows sold with ALL computers.
Maybe building systems and installing OS's was great in the 1970's but its time to get with the times and buy a new pre-assembled computer.

To use the Services, each user must independently obtain access to the World Wide Web, either directly or through devices that access Web-based content, and pay any and all service fees or equipment costs associated with such access.
3. REGISTRATION OBLIGATIONS

While OSDN will use reasonable efforts to back up site data and make such data available in the event of loss or deletion, OSDN has no responsibility or liability for the deletion or failure to store any messages and other communications or other Content maintained or transmitted by any Service. OSDN reserves the right to mark as "inactive" and archive accounts and/or projects that are inactive for an extended period of time. OSDN reserves the right to change these general practices and Service-specific Rules at any time, in its sole discretion, with notice to users and the public as described in Section 1 above.
7. TERMINATION
A user's account may be terminated for reasons that include, but are not limited to, the following: 1.) violation of these TOS; 2.) abuse of site resources or attempt to gain unauthorized entry to the site or site resources; 3.) use of Service in a manner inconsistent with the Purpose; 4.) a user's request for such termination; and 5.) requirement of applicable law, regulation, court or governing agency order.
OSDN's termination of any user's access to OSDN or any Service hereunder may be effected without notice and, on such termination, OSDN may immediately deactivate or delete user's account and/or bar any further access to such files, that Service or OSDN. OSDN shall not be liable to any user or other third party for any termination of that user's access or account hereunder.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, unless prohibited by law or judicial or governmental order, OSDN shall make reasonable efforts to make available all information in a user's account to that user prior to deleting that account or marking that account "inactive", including emailing to the affected user 15-days prior notice of such termination and the location of such user's information, and retaining all information for at least 15 days after emailing such notice.
8. LINKS
OSDN, any Service or a third party may provide links to other Websites. OSDN exercises no control whatsoever over such other Websites and Web-based resources and is not responsible or liable for the availability thereof or the Content, advertising, products or other materials thereon. OSDN shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss incurred or suffered by any user in connection therewith.
9. INDEMNITY; DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES; LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

OSDN respects the intellectual property of all parties and we ask our users to do the same. Lets talk about Jon Carmack. Jon is the legendary programmer of such classic PC games as Wolfenstein, Doom, Duke nukem 3d, Quake 1, 2, and 3, unreal, and the upcoming doom3. Jon has single handedly created the genre known as the first-person-shooter. He has also popularized the Direct3d 3d format over Microsoft's competing Opengl format, as well as caused public interest in 3d cards when he first released accelerated quake for the s3 virge chipset. Jon carmack has redefined gaming on PC's.
Now stop for a moment and think... What would have happened if Albert Einstein had worked creating amazing pinball games instead of creating the theory of relativity? Humanity would suffer! Jon carmack is unfortunately doing JUST THIS, using his gifts at computer coding to create games instead of furthering the knowledge of humanity. Carmack could have been working for NASA or the US military, but instead he simply sits around coding violent computer games.
Is this a waste of a special and rare talent? Sadly, the answer is yes.
Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there. Not only is Jon carmack not contributing to society, he is causing it's downfall. What was the main reason for the mass murder of dozens of people in columbine? Doom. It's always the same story... Troubled youth plays doom or quake, he arms himself to the teeth, he kills his classmates. This has happened hundreds of times in the US alone. Carmack is not only wasting his talents and intelligence; he is single-handedly causing the deaths of many young men and women. How does he sleep at night?
Carmack is a classic example of a very talented and intelligent human being that is bent on total world destruction. Incredibly, he has made millions of dollars getting people hooked on psychotic games where they compete on the internet to see who can dismember the most people. I believe there is something morally wrong when millions of people have computerized murder fantasies, and we have Jon Carmack to thank. Carmack has used his superior intellect to create mayhem in society. Many people play games such as quake so much that their minds are permanently warped. A cousin of mine has been in therapy for 6 months after he lost a 'death match' and became catatonic.
It is unfortunate that most people do not realize how much this man has damaged all the things we have worked hard for in America. Jon has wasted his intelligence, caused the deaths of innocent children, and warped this country forever. To top it off, he got rich in the process and is revered by millions of computer users worldwide. Perhaps one day the US government will see the light and confine Jon Carmack somewhere with no computers so he can no longer use his intelligence to wreak havoc on society.

The Slashdot Effect could have a potentially crippling effect on the American computer industry and I feel it is justified to offer my own advice on this problem.

what is the point of this? with all the stresses in life after september 11, building a pc should not be one of them. That is why there are companies that build preassembled systems. Its a novel idea, but so far DELL and Compack have shown that it CAN be profitable. Macontosh has pushed the idea further by selling preassembled systems that cant be upgraded called apple computers. They are call apple computers because you throw them out when you are done using it similar to an apple. Every year you buy a new system and dont have to bother with the stress of upgrading, its a very successful idea. Another new development is having windows preinstalled on your computer instead of having to buy it. So far this has been a very successful approach and microsoft is pushing to have windows sold with ALL computers.
Maybe building systems and installing OS's was great in the 1970's but its time to get with the times and buy a new pre-assembled computer.

11. COPYRIGHTS

Lets talk about Jon Carmack. Jon is the legendary programmer of such classic PC games as Wolfenstein, Doom, Duke nukem 3d, Quake 1, 2, and 3, unreal, and the upcoming doom3. Jon has single handedly created the genre known as the first-person-shooter. He has also popularized the Direct3d 3d format over Microsoft's competing Opengl format, as well as caused public interest in 3d cards when he first released accelerated quake for the s3 virge chipset. Jon carmack has redefined gaming on PC's.
Now stop for a moment and think... What would have happened if Albert Einstein had worked creating amazing pinball games instead of creating the theory of relativity? Humanity would suffer! Jon carmack is unfortunately doing JUST THIS, using his gifts at computer coding to create games instead of furthering the knowledge of humanity. Carmack could have been working for NASA or the US military, but instead he simply sits around coding violent computer games.
Is this a waste of a special and rare talent? Sadly, the answer is yes.
Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there. Not only is Jon carmack not contributing to society, he is causing it's downfall. What was the main reason for the mass murder of dozens of people in columbine? Doom. It's always the same story... Troubled youth plays doom or quake, he arms himself to the teeth, he kills his classmates. This has happened hundreds of times in the US alone. Carmack is not only wasting his talents and intelligence; he is single-handedly causing the deaths of many young men and women. How does he sleep at night?
Carmack is a classic example of a very talented and intelligent human being that is bent on total world destruction. Incredibly, he has made millions of dollars getting people hooked on psychotic games where they compete on the internet to see who can dismember the most people. I believe there is something morally wrong when millions of people have computerized murder fantasies, and we have Jon Carmack to thank. Carmack has used his superior intellect to create mayhem in society. Many people play games such as quake so much that their minds are permanently warped. A cousin of mine has been in therapy for 6 months after he lost a 'death match' and became catatonic.
It is unfortunate that most people do not realize how much this man has damaged all the things we have worked hard for in America. Jon has wasted his intelligence, caused the deaths of innocent children, and warped this country forever. To top it off, he got rich in the process and is revered by millions of computer users worldwide. Perhaps one day the US government will see the light and confine Jon Carmack somewhere with no computers so he can no longer use his intelligence to wreak havoc on society.
