Which DVD-Recordable Drives?
We've had a couple stories recently about DVD-RW and such. I'm wondering what ones out there people have used, how well they work, what's the support etc etc. I'm also still on my quest to build the ultimate quiet machine, so any comment on the amount of noise the drive generates would be great - I love my Yamaha Drive for burning - but it's a *loud* one.
I have to agree here, and the Plextor won't make coasters as readily as the Yamaha will. If that 8 meg buffer empties out on the Yamaha, well.
Someone set us up the bomb, so shine we are!
Excuse me, but slashdot has a job to do here. Yes, it's a very hard time to go through, but sooner or later, we just have to get back to work. Slashdot gracefully only posted news about the tragedy yesterday, and was the best resource around to deliver people quality links, and great opinions.
My sympathies go out to the family, friends and co-workers that died in this unfathomable event.

and throw our society into a tailspin. Pardon me for not giving in. It does not mean I feel any less for the victims, several of which were personal friends, but I'll NOT GIVE the SOB's the satisfaction. I am at work today, a huge list of projects some of which were driven from the WTC sit in front of me and I find it hard to care. A little triviality is the medicine I need now.
errr....umm...*whooosh* *whoosh* Is this thing on ?
UGH, why do I have the feeling I'm feeding the troll??
The terrorists want everything to change. That is why they did what they did. If you continue on life (which needs to happen, you just can't live life in fear, or morning), you are showing the terrorist they didn't achieve a victory.
I don't know why I've been labelled Flamebait for having a bit of compassion and respect for those we have lost, but you're right. Slashdot does have a job to do. Slashdot's own mantra describes their job as "News for Nerds, Stuff That Matters".
What else matters more than the fact that today should be a day of mourning, and that we are tottering on the brink of a nuclear war. Nothing, my friend. Get your priorities straight.

Don't take this the wrong way, but...STFU. This isn't your site. If you don't like it, you know what to do.
fp!! who's yo daddy!
"atrowe: Card-carrying Mensa member. I have no toleranse for stupidity."
I don't either. Learn how to spell "tolerance" mensa dork boy.
Doesn't reading and responding to threads that have nothing to do with the disaster also show the lack of humanity you claim to abhor? So stop with your flamebaiting posting and go back to under your desk and resume chewing your fingernails. Interrupting normal life as we live it is the whole goal of the terrorism. Congrats on perpetuating their objectives with your brilliant post!
I am an INTP. I have no tolerance for pompous asses!

Listen buddy, your shiny new DVD burner isn't going to solve our nation's problems. It's also not going to protect you from the hail of nukes that are about to start raining down all over the country. We simply cannot AFFORD to shirk this issue.
-atrowe: Card-carrying Mensa member. I have no toleranse for stupidity.
btw, everyone in mensa is as dumb as a brick. it's a group for idiots to tell each other their intelligent.
I believe you meant to say "...to tell each other they're intelligent". Sorry, I don't know any way to parse what you said into something meaningful. And I didn't need to be a Mensan to point that out.
"toleranse" is the proper British spelling. The Queens English is quite simply the ONLY correct English. You USians have done nothing short of butchering the language.
I spit on the Koran and I piss on Mohammed.
You're related to me?? SWEET!
SPOOGE!
I kinda think that the "tolerance" thing was a joke....
Perhaps they know the difference between they're and their?
people who post just to point out typo(e)s (your preferrence) == retarded.

Think different? I'd be happy if most people would just think...
Yet nother crippling bombshell hit th beleaguered *BSD community when last month IDC confirmed that *BSD accounts for less than a fraction of 1 percent of ll servers. Coming on the heels of the latest Netcraft survey which plainly states that *BSD has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along. *BSD is collapsing in complete disarray, as further exemplified by failing dead last in the recent Sys Admin comprehensive networking test.
You don't need to be a Kreskin to predict *BSD's future. The hand writing is on the wall: *BSD faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for *BSD because *BSD is dying. Things are looking very bad for *BSD. As many of us are already aware, *BSD continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood. FreeBSD is the most endangered of them all.
Let's keep to the facts and look at the numbers.
OpenBSD leader Theo states that there are 7000 users of OpenBSD. How many users of NetBSD are there? Let's see. The number of OpenBSD versus NetBSD posts on Usenet is roughly in ratio of 5 to 1. Therefore there are about 7000/5 = 1400 NetBSD users. BSD/OS posts on Usenet are about half of the volume of NetBSD posts. Therefore there are about 700 users of BSD/OS. A recent article put FreeBSD at about 80 percent of the *BSD market. Therefore there are (7000+1400+700)*4 = 36400 FreeBSD users. This is consistent with the number of FreeBSD Usenet posts.
Due to the troubles of Walnut Creek, abysmal sales and so on, FreeBSD went out of business and was taken over by BSDI who sell another troubled OS. Now BSDI is also dead, its corpse turned over to yet another charnel house.
All major surveys show that *BSD has steadily declined in market share. *BSD is very sick nd its long term survival prospects are very dim. If *BSD is to survive at all it will be among OS hobbyist dabblers. *BSD continues to decay. Nothing short of a miracle could save it at this point in time. For ll practical purposes, *BSD is dead.
*BS is dying

Have a WANK.
Wonderful slashcode!
Ha, damn. Never mind .. You can have the next story then. "But is a Linux penguin made of lego falling apart as satisfying as watching a 100 storey building collapse?" or something.
Get over your paranoia, jackass. Terrorists love mindless robots like you. You are the kind of moron that enables terrorism to succeed in its goal of paralyzing a country. Look into assymetrical warfare, and then come back here and post.
It is called not letting them win, we are attempting to go on with our lives. You know, every day thousands of people die needlessly. People are murdered, raped, robbed, tortured, etc. yet you went on with your life every day until yesterday, you monster!
As long as were doing comedy here;
Towel for head-----$5
767;fully fueled---$5,000,000
World trade center-$1.5Billion
Sound it makes hitting the ground(to towel-headed wankers in middle east)--priceless
(apologies in advanced to all victims and families:of course I posted anan.)
I hate Arabs. I say nuke them to hell.
You seem to be loosing it! It definitely is a day of mourning, but life goes on. Do you think we should sit on our sofas watching CNN repeat the same thing over and over again and do nothing? I don't think so. People should try and donate blood, money or whatever to help the victims and definitely carry on with their life. Most likely their life will be in some ways affected by what happened. But to think that a person is a monster or does not have compassion because they refuse to only talk about what happened or "mourn" is foolish. You definitely don't know what you're talking about if you think we're heartless and indifferent because we think about other things.
And on a side note, how exactly should we mourn? A lot of people mourn in various differnt ways. Maybe he actually is mourning by thinking about DVD burners. I know of people who completely block out death of a loved one and focus on something trivial like baking the perfect chocolate chip cookie. This is their way of dealing with the tragedy!!
Hey, but that just wasn't funny. Your delivery was terrible, and what's worse, you apologised at the end of it, completely ruining the joke.
I thought the sig looked funny.
shame on the nigga who try to run game on a nigga
