GNU Emacs 21
Alex writes: "After a wait worthy of the Mozilla project, GNU Emacs 21 is finally released! Image support, colour syntax highlighting on terminals, nice scrollbars and tooltips, it's all there folks. Also, for the first time in it's long illustrious history (and a step forward for GNU Project development in general) it's now available via anonymous CVS on savannah. No more waiting a year for the latest features... Now all we need is a port to GTK/GNOME...." Other submitters point out that the changelog is available through CVS (this is a serious changelog!), and you might try the mirrors, or maybe some light reading while you download.
Thank God. Now I have reason to dump Vim.
why people think Emacs is so great? I've found a lot of other editors out there that are much faster and user-friendly.
It must be a cult thing...
I can still remember moving over to emacs as my main development tool as if it was yesterday (it was actually only last year, but anyways).
I started working at a dot com (still around actually BusinessEurope.com where all the developers were Borland JBuilder users. I of course rode the band wagon and used JBuilder like the rest. Then about a week later after starting a young Swedish man started working for the same company. He compelely blew everyone out of the water with his knowledge and skill. I was just in such amazement and noticed that opposed to using Jbuilder like the rest he used Emacs. When questioned he slated Jbuilder stating that a real programmer should know what he's doing and not need all the fancy auto complete functions that Jbuilder supplied (and which the other developers claimed were invaluable). I tried using Editplus to hatch some sort of inbetween house but it just didn't cut it and soon I was completly turned to Emacs. I haven't looked back since and I urge all my friends to use it now when discussing IDEs.
Good on you Emacs and thanks for showing me the way...

Of course Emacs is becoming a full fledged OS. In fact, Emacs is the *real* GNU OS kernel project. All that HURD stuff is just a ruse to distract all those annoying VI users as Emacs, posing at first as an overly-capable text editor, slowly and cancerously takes over the operating system functions from whatever Linux, BSD, Sun, or HP kernel was once there. This is how GNU's "world domination" plans will be carried out. Beware Emacs "upgrades!"

In other news, VIM 7.0 was released, with more obscure and impossible-to-remember commands than ever before!

Well I don't want to spread any rumours here but it is a common knowledge these days that vi is the preferred editor of the members of the al-Qaeda group led by Osama bin Laden. Not that I'm trying to stereotype vi users here but I think everyone should draw their own conclusions in the light of what was said above. Thank you.
Your pizza just the way you ought to have it.
funny thing is, you'll never get laid, either.
You're only mad because you fell for it, dumbass.
Heres the deal. If I can shove Emacs 21 into my ass sideways, there is a changelog. If not, there is not. I have been able to determine that there IS A CHANGELOLG FOR 12PACKS OF PEANUT BUTTER TOAST-A-CHEES. USE AT YOUR RISK. Thanks in advance. I have to go the doctor.

Hello!
werd to your mother
It's pretty funny that you say stuff like that to people and then you get all mad when they say it back to you. Get a clue, Mr. Spork, and find something better to do with yourself. Thanks, in advance.
LOL, I always knew you sporks had nothing better to do with your time. You are a LOSER!
It's true! :)
Again, don't you have something better to do, evil_spork, than keep replying to me? Get a life, man. You are the loser.
You know, that doesn't make anyone have to scroll over, it just makes your text all squished up against the side of the screen.
you seem to have, uh issues
Slashdot requires you to wait 2 minutes between each successful posting of a comment to allow everyone

Maybe there is no depth limit. If they closed the source and wrote a Windows version it would probably work better.

What did the people using emacs for their web browsing have to do, I dont think it has a scroll bar. You have to press C_b C_s to make it scroll.
I think you have to write a lisp macro to make it scroll
At least it has tooltips
