This isn't a troll, I'm just trying to get a handle on why exactly the HURD exists.

    1) Is it because its all GPL?

    2) Is it because its a microkernel?

    3) Maybe a new, improved microkernel? Not MACH.

    4) Security?

    5) Performance? Yea right.

    6) Ease of use? Isn't that up to KDE and GNOME?

    7) Translators, Namespace unification, RPC? Been there, done that.

So, exactly why does HURD exist? What does it bring to the table that hasn't been seen dozens of times before? (Besides allowing non-root users to mount partitions!)

Gee, while I was reading about the different "advantages" of using the HURD, it remended me quite a bit of the type of talk body-mod enthusiasts use when they list the "advantages" of self-castration (you don't go bald, etc...). I don't want to come off as hostile, but am I the only person on earth that thinks that the only reason this project is still around is because of RMS' massive ego?
