    This is especially interesting when you take into effect how things swirl in the northern hemisphere in the opposite direction of the southern hemisphere. The problem, though, is when you have a device like this, if you cross the equator, it is going to get scrambled as the spin is cancelled out. Otherwise, it should work fine (on earth), but not in space.
