Where Can You Buy Refurbished Hardware, Now?
theGoodWitch writes "Since Egghead.com
went bankrupt (that new 'powered by Amazon.com' site they have
not is not the same thing), I'm having trouble finding good deals on
used/refurbished/end-of-stock PCs, servers, hard drives, tape drives,
and such. Ubid has some, but not
nearly the selection. eBay has too much, and it's too hard to sort
out who the sellers are. I don't want to buy from individuals, only
from commercial suppliers with (at least limited) warranties and
minimal guarantees. Egghead.com was perfect, but now they're gone.
What happened to all the stuff they were getting? Who is selling it
now?"
eBay has too much
Whenever I'm looking for something, and I find it in mass quantities, I get really pissed too.
python -c "x='python -c %sx=%s; print x%%(chr(34),repr(x),chr(34))%s'; print x%(chr(34),repr(x),chr(34))"
I got memory from them with no problems. They also carry a lot of other crap too.

'nuff said.
ebay has its half.com, pricewatch.com has its not-exactly-new section..
half.com
pricewatch.com

Clearance/Refurbished sections of PC Mall, PC Warehouse, Insight, CDw, etc
I remember buying from Egghead when they were "Surplus Software", they used to have the big black and white news paper type ads they'd mail you. They always had a page or two in Computer Shopper, also.
They used to sell LINUX distros, way back in the early 90's!

RePC is a good No-Frills place for old/recycled stuff. You can sell them your old equipment too.

PC Liquidator and pricewatch.com haven't given me any problems.
31 flavors of ice cream to choose from? Do I need this kind of pressure? For an ice cream cone??
Yea, ebay has too much to choose from and that search engine thingy that they use is *SO* complicated.
News for nerds?
You're free to sift through my garbage on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I'm sure you'll find a really good deal there, just don't whine about it. Ok?
I swear to fucking Christ, even K5 has more informative articles than this, and they're first-class fluffmongers.
/. users so goddamned incompetent that they can't find a used hardware site? It's not "News for Nerds." Nerds have fifty million channels that they can get shit through. And it certainly doesn't matter.

Hey Taco! Looks like you're using the "infinite monkeys and typewriters" scheme to generate Ask Slashdots again...
but don't forget the hyphen! :-) I've never personally dealt with them but members of the local unix community always had nice things to say about them (I mean, if anyone devours "old" hardware it's us freenix fans [for a while they had dual ppro 200s for like $149!]). Anyway, they ship so don't worry if you don't happen to live in the land of Shiner Bock, Sun-baked Hippies, and Crazed Germans (aka central Texas).

EuroPC (based in the UK) sold me a firewall for GBP 70 + VAT (+ GBP 15 postage); apart from needing a keyboard to boot (I use a KVM switch) it's been fine. They seem to have quite a high throughput of stuff, so it's worth checking back every now & then to see what they have.
