Who was passing around the hat for Amiga and BeOS? If a company provides a good product, but can't stay afloat, too bad. Do what everyone else does, cut staff/expenses and restructure. People are whining about why the community needs this distro and how great it is. Well isn't that special, but a poorly run business is a drain on the community's human and financial resources. People want to push their favorite flavor of Linux in the corporate environment, but why recommend a company that might not be around tomorrow? Corporate buyers want stability not a vendor with a tin cup. If you want Linux to spread out to the rest of the world, support the distro with the greatest chance of survival.

RIAA did not learn a thing from their Napster experience.
"... three million people typically use the KaZaA Media Desktop software at any given time, collectively providing access to half a billion files, Sharman said, roughly double Napster's usage at its peak. "
I don't know about 3 million users, but KaZaa does have a substantial amount of file trading. The industry is using the same old tactics that it uses against traditional pirates, litigation or bribe politicians to make rules favoring them. Peer to peer networks will be around as long as the Internet is in its present form. Their only options are: 1) Buy out Sharman Networks, and create a killer marketing tool 2) Destroy the Internet and remake into a corporate friendly environment 3) Litigate KaZaa into submission, and hope that the next P2P app is not impossible to subjugate. The smart thing to do would be option 1; they can co-opt P2P like they did the rest of the Internet, but without serious revision to their groupthink, and RIAA are going for option 3. Hilary Rosen needs a window so she can see out of her stomach.

So that $.25 per minute, does that apply to their monthly phone bill or is that separate and billed to them by their ISP? Is that call local or long distance? What about their Anytime Minutes(TM), do they apply? What if they're calling Friends and Family(TM), is the rate any cheaper? If they spend more time on the internet, does their rate go down? What about if the subscriber IM's his mom in Syria, do they still pay $.25 a min. or do Syrian rates apply? What about ... blah, blah, blah....

  9. Article bad, SOS on E-terrorism, Bark or Bite? · · Score: 0

E-Terrorism is self perpetuating hype that the security industry and government control freaks use for job security. Can you ever guarantee security on any network with dial up or internet access? Well maybe if you're using Windows 2000 or XP, this might be possible. I don't know, I'll just have to wait and see if Dubya or J.Edgar Ashcroft authorizes the usage of any other secure NOS. Quit rehashing the same old story, post stuff that matters.

Leave the poor admin alone, I mean really, he's got to work for Hillary Rosen. Do the right thing, call your rep and call your senators alot and make sure your friends do too. If you really want to be a good person, boycott RIAA's members and all of their products. Oh, I'm sorry that would be inconvenient, nevermind, go back to your scripts .
