Intel C/C++ Compiler Beats GCC

jfonseca writes: "An article from Open Magazine claims the new Intel C/C++ compiler's geometric mean performance on multiple kernels compiled through it reached 47% improvement over GCC. They also predict the end to the ubiquitous GNU compiler due to low performance. Many other compiler/platform combinations also compared. A bit pretentious, yet an interesting read."

    Please mod me down. Our ISP (the only broadband ISP up here) forces us to use their 2 proxies to surf (they block port 80 among others). If you mod me down every day no one from my ISP will be able to post on Slashdot! Thank you!

      Tell me about it.

      I just gave away a couple of high karma accounts on Slashdot because of:

      1) Fascist IP subnet ban policy.
      2) Fascist moderation by the janitors.
      3) The utter contempt the janitors treat the Slashdot readership which is paying their goddamn salaries. Try complaining about the subnet ban policy, for instance, and our "friendly janitor", jamie, will tell you to go and hunt down the miscreants. So, it's "dead or alive" and "you're either with us or against us" here too??

      I'll keep on trolling via anon proxies and junkbuster, though.

    Indeed.

    Slashdot is going to censorship hell in a handbasket and the transformation reminds me of Pink's transformation from a bohemian rock star into a jackbooted fascist ("that one doesn't look right to me... put him up against the wall!") in Pink Floyd's "The Wall".

    Slashdot is not part of the open source community. It's just a news site.

    And why do you think they censor things anyway?
    BECAUSE THERE ARE TOO MANY TROLLS!
    Look at it: first posts, links to goatse.cx, totally braindead flamebaits, trolls that are based upon nothing, the dumb "*BSD is dead" posts and the pro-Microsoft "open source sucks!" zealots...
    If they don't mod all those things down, Slashdot would become a chaos, the home of trolls and flamers (oh wait, it already is).

      Can you tell me why the same trolls behave themselves on K5? Because the rules of the game are clear there. Slashdot on the other hand likes to boast that they're a user moderated weblog whereas in reality the editors are abusing their unlimited moderation point pool to moderate "wrong thinking" into oblivion even though the users are trying to keep the thread alive (you know what thread I'm talking about).

      Not to mention the fascist subnet IP ban which doesn't punish the troll (who can always use an anon proxy) but punishes all the contributing posters on that same subnet. Talk about harsh measures.
