Java2 SDK v. 1.4 Released
pangloss writes: "Yay: XML, built-in Perl-ish regex, jdbc 3.0, asserts, IPv6, lots of other goodies. Release notes and incompatibilities. And I think this means I can use my wheel-mouse in NetBeans without that extra module ;) Download it here." WilsonSD adds: "There are many cool new features including a New I/O package, an Assert Facility and enhanced performance." Some other random Java notes: O'Reilly has an essay about why you won't see any open source J2EE implementations, and Kodak has filed a patent-infringement claim against Sun regarding Java.

Do you even read Slashdot?
I don't think anyone claims this is an unbiased news site. It's a message board for Linux geeks. Love it or leave it. Or present your own viewpoint.

OK, I'm sorry for all the trolling/crapfloding.
I am officially announcing my retirement from the trolling community. I will be a productive member of society now. To everyone here I send my most sincere appologies.

Slashdot rocks! Keep up the good work guys!
A friend of mine who worked in an oil company told me a while ago that it will take quite a while before we can have a feasible electrical vehicle. The problem? Oil companies has bought *many* patents critical for efficient power cell (battery) development. The technology to produce a powerful battery that can actually run a car exists but can never be used because it is patented and the patent is hold by the oil company which have the least interest to see an electrical car successful. Go figure.
Actually, I was wondering where I could download Linux of Death. I'd see it having a logo of a cute penguin wearing a skull and cross-bones t-shirt, and weilding a scythe.
