GNOME 2.0 Beta
xer.xes writes: "The first public beta release of the GNOME 2.0 Desktop is ready for your testing pleasure! It is available for immediate download here. Please read the release notes first! Due for general consumption in March, the GNOME 2.0 Desktop is a greatly improved user environment for existing GNOME applications. Enhancements include anti-aliased text and first class internationalisation support, new accessibility features for disabled users, and many improvements throughout GNOME's highly regarded user interface." LinuxToday or gnome-announce have the announcement. I don't see release notes anywhere - post a link in the comments if you find them. GNOME is having a bug day today.
A beta release? Why not just start announcing Alpha releases too?
What, you're still reading this? Get back to work testing my future software for me for free!

Hehehehehe!
've always thought that GNOME looked nicer than the windows or mac desktops (almost as nice as BeOS) I suggest you contact a doctor immediately, to have the shit surgically removed from your skull and replaced with brains.
Liberate your mind in two clicks or less.
is your crusty anus user-visiable you are so arrogant, like you know this so typical of slashdot you probably user linux as well
"I am a relative Linux on the desktop newbie" you are so arrogant why dont you provide us with some informative links instead ,bumperbutt
Fuck that crappy second rate desktop, it was only created so stall man can masturbate with licences Get this desktop now, before your killed with mono!
It looks SO much better!
i installed gnome 2 BETA:
- first time startup it looks similar to CDE same pebbles background
- all major applications crashes
- nautilus crashes after quit
- gnome-cd doesnt play a shit
- where can i get a gnome 2 browser ?
- where can i get a gnome 2 mailer ?
- why cant i change the background ?
- why doesnt gnome 2 save my settings when having a full running gconf-2 installed ?
- why is gnome 2 slower than gnome 1 ?
- why does nautilus still takes ages to paint the desktop ?
- why is gnome beta 1 called beta and not alpha ? its far from beeing named beta ? even the developers say this.
i dont want to install gnome 1 and gnome 2 parallel because it makes no sense. gnome 2 is in no way usable for me since i dont have the NEEDED tools for it. where is galeon ? where is evolution ? without these programs it makes no sense moving to gnome 2. what kind of shit is this ?
even the KDE 3 beta was far better. i tried it some weeks ago and it is more usable than gnome 2 you have a browser, you have a REALLY working filemanager and you have a mailer. probably not the best mailer but something that makes a desktop usable.
from what i tested GNOME 2 will be something between KDE 1 and KDE 2 but never competes with KDE 3. oki i am busy now need to install KDE 3 finally now. i am fed up it cant be that i waited so long for gnome 2 and get this crap offered.
