Doing a quick read through of the comments at +4 and above I have found a shocking trend. Every single comment went something to the effect of "We should give everyone else nuclear weapons because it isnt fair" or "Threatening to use nukes upset the balance of power... yada yada yada" Nuclear weapons are a detterent! The voters of the cold war generation would crucify a president who used nuclear weapons randomly, but the very statement that we will respond with nuclear weapons in X situation is good enough to keep a lot of people from creating X situation. During the cold war, right after WW2,when a US government official was outlining the countries that we would protect from the communist threat, he accidently left out South Korea.. Whatdya know! What I am basically saying is that first USEING nuclear weapons is a VERY VERY bad thing, however threating to use nuclear weapons is a very good thing, because first, it is a major major detterent, second even if X situation happens, then the US is not required to retailiate.
