Telco Networks Open to Attack?

Cally writes: "This post to NANOG summarises Dave Henderson's paper (.ppt: HTML in Google cache, grep for 'Now Really Public') from the Internetwork Interoperability Test Coordination Committee, about the state of security in the public switched (telephone) network: wide open and "very fragile with a tremendous number of vulnerabilities". Apparently, there's $12b in fraud per year, growing interest from blackhat groups, and more, better, intruder tools. We often hear talk of "information warfare attacks that could result in the draining of bank reserves and the cutting off of power sources" from budget-and-PR hungry, but clue-light, politicians and wonks these days. When an experienced engineer uses such language, it's more worrying." We've also had submissions of this AP article speculating about viruses hitting mobile phones.

    I still think it's a shame Mono has gone off doing C# when the analogous project based on Java would already be much further along--there are several free, open source Java compilers, a good open source JIT from Intel, and lots of library code. Furthermore, such a Java project could have started several years ago, when the Gnome crowd was still claiming that anything other than plain C was just not suitable for writing applications or GUIs in.

    It looks like the Mono project still has a couple of years of work ahead of them until they get to a reasonably full features C# implementation. Let's hope it's worth it.

    ...are actually a good thing. They clearly highlight the fact that the US do not strive for three trade at all, but only for the selfish little interests of their own industry. Thus, they will now have a much harder time pushing their new idiotic copyright laws abroad, "in the name of free trade".

    I was posting facts. If you look at the New York Post, it tends to be a cheerleader for Sharon. Compare that to its competitors in the New York market (the Daily News and the Times) and you'll see that the Post is far more of a cheerleader. Mortimer Zuckerman, the owner of the News is Jewish. The Sulzbergers, who own a majority stake in the Times, are also Jewish.

    While I was not expecting a mod-up, and would have been happy with an off-topic, that is not a troll.

    He wouldn't make it a crime to be black OR poor, he'd make it a crime to be "black AND poor." It's ok with "Rich Whitey" to be "Rich, but not as rich as me Black-Man" (ala Colin Powell, Bill Cosby, and other non-threatening African-Americans). It's also ok with "Rich Whitey" to be "Poor Whitey" (poor white people can be manipulated quite easily). But you can't manipulate "Poor Black People", that is, unless you are Jesse Jack$on or Al $harpton or some other "Wolf in MLK's clothing." Poor black people can't be used by Rich Whitey to forward his own agenda, so poor black people are seen as a threat. Simple.
