A New Low for Web Advertisers: Pop-Up Downloads
rizzmanix writes: "I thougt it was strange that I had been getting a lot of pop-up download prompts for the Gator software as I browsed around the web in the recent days. Why were all these sites requiring this Gator thing I wondered?
Well I wonder no more... as apparently advertisers hit a new low by running 'pop-up downloads' instead of pop-up ads. Sneaky, underhanded, nasty and vile."

Yes, it's very annoying. But it's always funny seeing people complain about the quality of things that they get for free.
Maybe one day we'll all get sick of it enough to support useful solutions like micropayments for worthwhile content.
Why are you letting these clowns ruin our country?
Yeah, it figures that an OSS/socialistic web browser would give its users the chance to filter out capitalism (advertisements.) Look if you don't want to view a site's ads, then don't go to the site. It is as simple as that. Blocking certain portions of a site's content because you don't personally want to see it is definitely immoral and arguably illegal.
The Crossover browser plugin, being conveniently 'closed source', connects to Codeweaver's servers every time you view a media file with it. It sends the URL, file name, your IP and your username as well.
This is a very dangerous precedent, as Linux users, in their rush to make their computers 'More like Windows', also accept some of the vunerabilities.
"Why did they cancel my favorite Sci-Fi show? I downloaded ALL the episodes!"
...to get a Mac. If you are too cheap, convert your x86 box to BSD because friends don't let friend use Linux. :P
