Microsoft Discloses Security Flaws in XP and WMPlayer
An anonymous reader writes: "Salon is running a story on Microsoft's disclosure of a number of security flaws in WinXP and Windows Media Player, versions 6.4 and 7.1. The story also states that there are 2 critical vulnerabilities in Commerce Server 2000. Will I ever get the bang for my MS buck?"
Why on earth would there be a bug in Media player that allows uncontrolled access to the system. What we have here folks is a very good example of what a horribly designed OS Windows is...
Especially XP! M$ says "Windows XP makes everything run together smoothly and makes things easier." It actually makes this sort of thing more plausible. Can anyone imagine a bug in XMMS that can make GNU/Linux unusable? Hah...
Slashdot: Where people pretend to be twice as smart as they really are by behaving like children.
Send Bill to jail, I say.
Then he can *really* worry about security holes.
:)
Oh looky. Self important whining. From a dot edu domain where it's highly unlikely they've even shelled out a single buck for the software ever. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT - USE LINUX OR ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE. It really is that simple.
Oh yeah, 81st Post, BITCHES. I like caps.
Damn Microsoft all to HELL!!!

Good Evening All,
I, like a poor fool, recently decided to go for a breath of fresh air in the
OS department and install Red Hat Linux 7.1 onto my old Celeron 300 with 64
mb of Ram. I allocated a 2.5 gb Hard Disk for Linux, and left my 6.4 to
Windows 98. The Linux installation went fine, and I was looking forward to
great things from it.
YEAH. RIGHT!
So I boot into Linux - no probs. Except for 1 - the GUI interface, which i
had asked for in setup, did not materialise. So I logged in as root and
attempted to launch it manually. What a disaster. The screen would blip
every five seconds, accompanied by a burst of HD activity and my keyboard
would lock up at the most inoppertune of places. So, I got fed up. I halted
Linux, and replaced my 6.4 gb Hard Disk.
OUCH!
The machine took one look at it and spat the dummy - called it an "Invalid
Systems Disk - Replace the Disk and press any key". When I replaced the
2.5gb, everything worked fine. The revelation hit me like a bolt of
lightning - my happy, pro-microsoft machine had been Linux-ised! ARGGHH!!
So I called a friend who knows a small amount about Linux. He told me that I
would have to manually modify the MBR and also re-sys the Windows Disk.
After 2 hours of coarse language, digging the bios of the machine and going
over the disks with scandisk and fdisk, I finally got Windows 98 up again -
how nice to see a familiar face. My friend and I wasted no time in telling
Linux where to go (OUT! OUT! OOUUTT!!!) and re-microsofting the disk.
Before this, I was a neutral in the Linux vs. Microsoft debate. Now I am
100% pro-microsoft and dead-set against Linux. I doubt that I will ever
touch it again with a 10 meter barge pole!
And I know that all you Linux-Huggers are going to come out with the Heavy
Artilery and attempt to blast this argument to pieces. Do your hardest -
until Microsoft has collapsed, and for years after, I will always source a
Linux Alternative.
GO MICROSOFT!! BILL GATES RULES!! LINUX REALLY DOES SUCKS!!

100% Pro-Microsoft
Mod parent down - this was stolen (and slightly modified without using any wit) from a Clerks TV episode. The joke wasn't even that funny then and this guy didn't give credit where credit was due. Certainly open source folks must think that uncited theft is wrong?
The patches install spywre and serial number tattlers!!! plus they doom you if you have the famous chines-hack version of XP release version that everyone I know runs, when they run XP for testing.
These facts have been mentioned before... I suspect you are trolling with such a provocative standard.
BTW Macs have never had a security exploit, so a bug is not a bug, its the security bugs that are the ones people care about the most.
Well, the Micro$oft pimps are moderating today...

I'm on PJ's "enemies" list! Are you?
