Handspring Hides Flash ROM in Handspring Treo

cosyne writes "Saw this story on BBC News about charging people £5 per day to drive in central London. The interesting part: they plan to use surveillance cameras to snap liscence plates and compare to a database of people who paid. That's the same as stopping terrorism, right?" We mentioned this issue in an earlier story. It's an interesting challenge: the UK authorities have a problem (too much traffic in London) which is not susceptible to the usual solution (too many ways into London, can't put tolls on all of them) and so they're looking for new solutions - except most of the possible solutions are privacy-invasive in one way or another.

Alexey Pazhitnov created the one game that has caused so many people around the world to just about go nuts trying to win a game that has the ability to slowly drive you to insanity one small misshappen block at a time. Since the creation of the original Tetris game on an Electronica 60, there have been dozens of different incarnations of Tetris that have dazzled the eyes, boggled the mind, frustrated the emotions, and fried more than their fair share of braincells. There is also a very interesting history of tetris online that details its evolution from innocent game to insane addiction. Plus it's one of those games that never grows old. :D"

Besides, we only know that trolls were the only independent thinkers in slashdot, and contributed
more interesting material than the rest of the thick-fingered karmawhores.

If Malda had a shred of intelligence, he would HIRE some of those said trolls, just to capture more interest and readership.

Slashdot is not really the high-brow hacker circle it wants to be, it is a cheap gathering of the nets lowest life forms; we like that way and the editors like it that way. If malda wanted to be
the Herald of IT, he should have started using a fucking spell checker and did business professionally.

No, instead he smoked dope, and decided he wants to make it more formal in the last minute. If he is
going to ban trolls, then he should stop soliciting all forms of personal opinion, including polls,
and make it this site a readonly news summary. If he really wants to stimulate a discussion, then
it becomes really hard to determine what is a troll and what is not. Whence, it is hard to determine
who is a troll and who is not, therefore it is mistaken to ban someone for being a troll.

Why funny? It's true. See this link:

Carbon nanotubes - tiny rolled sheets of graphite - have a host of unusual electronic and mechanical properties, which are the focus of research in Ajayan's group. During an experiment, de la Guardia tried to photograph single-walled nanotubes using a conventional flash, which has a spectrum similar to that of sunlight, but without the ultraviolet light.

Ajayan's team - which included researchers working in Mexico, France and UK - repeated this process on single- and multiwalled nanotubes. After packing samples of nanotubes to different densities, they exposed them to light pulses with a range of intensities and recorded the results on video. They later used an electron microscope to inspect the remains of the nanotubes.

Immediately after a flash, the researchers found that 'hot spots' appeared on the single-walled nanotubes and then spread through the sample until it was completely burnt. Samples packed to higher densities needed a more powerful flash to ignite them because the samples contained less oxygen, which supports combustion. The multiwalled nanotubes did not burn at all.

yeah i love al of those japanese cars with exactly 276hp, when they really rate at like 350hp. i specificly thinking of the Mazda RX7, the Nissan Skyline (R34, etc) and the Toyota Supra.

although this is caused by the japanese government placing a hp cap at 276hp, because you would never need more than that, ahem 640k, ahem, aahem. but the japanese gov. trusts the automakers and does no actual testing so twin turbo Supras would roll off the line pushing like 350-400hp.
