Fake Your Own .Mac Server

c13v3rm0nk3y writes "A clever fellow named Otto Moerbeek has publish a short article on getting an OpenBSD box to emulate a .Mac server. Using Apache/DAV/SSL and a roll a duct-tape, he describes how you can get most .Mac functionality without paying Apple for it." This is useful because then you can use apple's backup tools to backup to a local server, and not have to backup over your piddly internet connection.

You're so incredibly dumb, really, "protecting" your inane little journal by a JavaScript password, that's really pathetic. In fact, you're more pathetic than a crippled crab, hobbling on a broken crutch, on a twisted hair, on a bloody cunt !

...suggest that you actually would actually do some significant changes to the server to make it act like a Mac one. But instead, this is just a dirty hack to use pirated software. I think this part is criminating enough to be prosecuted. I wonder how many hours it takes for this to be removed from the web. :

I believe you are the one who needs to shut up. I never said the software was bundled with OSX. Apple does sell it separately. And those who bought it have a right to use it. Now go pack sand.

Well, that's it for me then. I was thinking of buying a Mac, but if all Mac users are assholes like you, I'll stick with Windows98. You just cost Apple a big hardware sale with your fucking Gnu/Apple type rant. Let it go retard. You sound like an idiot and are convincing NOBODY.

If Apple *does* try to stop people from backing up their shit to the server instead of an iDisk, I will PAY one of my old compsci profs $30,000 to clean-room an exact copy of this shit and GPL it. Why they didn't include this backup software with OSX is cheap and smacks of desperation. Every other Unix in the known world has backup software built in. Is Apple trying to be BETTER than the competition or just 'good enough'? 'Good enough' is why so many people hate Windows.

But Apple won't care about this hack because IT'S INCREASING VALUE FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS... ADDED VALUE LIKE THIS IS WHY PEOPLE 'SWITCH'... STUPID GREEDY RESTRICTIONS ARE WHY PEOPLE STAY AWAY....

If they start adding code into OS X to restrict user freedoms, I recommend we all start calling them "Crapple" again, because they will truly deserve the name. They've done well with OSX, but can still foul it up by fucking over their customer base, removing basic functionality a piece at a time, and charging for it. BUT THEY WON'T BECAUSE USER IMPROVEMENTS ARE A GOOD THING FOR SALES.
