I figured that the lack of a genetic relationship between the two species was already well known, especially when you consider the empirical evidence compiled thus far that concludes that cromagnon man and neaderthal coexisited. When your government says (and enforces that) there is no such thing as the thing that is the most obvoius, and most likely correct, answer (God), you have to resort to aliens or something equally as unlikely.
