Drug Making Genes Added To Corn Jump To Soya
Anonymous Cowdog writes "Google News turned up a scary item today: Apparently, genetically altered corn, designed not to repel pests or withstand bad weather, but rather to grow pharmecuticals (for diabetes and diarrhea) has been accidentally mixed with soy plants in the field, resulting in 500,000 bushels of contaminated soybeans being quarantined by the US FDA. Ooops. Here's the story, and here's another story about the same case. The company who brought us this nice event is called ProdiGene. Looks like they're also working on an edible AIDS vaccine (kinda makes sense, eat Tofu, enjoy free love!) Now, I was thinking, will our government protect us from doom-by-hand-me-down-genes? and on a hunch (honest!) I did this google search for keywords ProdiGene and "george w bush". Result? A not so reassuring article."

Perhaps these "lot of people" should find themselves ANY evidence of a gene crossing plant species. After all, plants have been near other plants for, oh... thousands of years. If there were genes hopping around, sooner or later some agriculturalist should have noticed a difference. There's absolutely nothing about a modified gene that would make it more mobile.

Could someone out there PLEASE explain to me how using genetic manipulation to produce an edible AIDS vaccine 'kinda makes sense' while using the same techniques to produce food that is resistant to disease and insects certain to lead to the end of life as we know it?
Really - is it too much to expect a little consistency from the leftists out there?
Genes may be transfered by a lot of ways. There can be a virus like what happened to the American Chestnut Tree. Now they only grow from roots and they can not breed because they have a blight. AIDS is one such blight. The problem with the franken food people is that they are wreakless. Their greed and their power mongering ways make them lack scientific caution. They don't seem to care what they infect us with. It is very well known that food alergies predominate in genetically similar populations. What seems very safe in one place (because people are all related) may be very bad somewhere else. As a matter of fact different blood types should have different diets. And so, even if what the frankenfood people pass off as a test in IOWA (or where ever they have thier lair) may not be good in Africa where there is a totally different gene pool. Now adays we can not buy tomatos at the supermarket. What we get is something else that is not good for me. It makes me have hives. Have tomatos always done this to me? I am not sure because I can't get the old type anymore. The Genetic Engineering crowd does not do engineering at all. What they do is gene splicing. And this is not the same. It amazes me that they want to play god-the-creator with our food supply as if it is the same as mixing chemicals in a laboratory. When genes get into the environment there is no telling where they end up. If a spider bites you, you get DNA. I had a skin rash that developed from just such a bite. If the fraken food is strange enough, who knows what it will do. It may well be that some of this stuff if benign to most people. But will the money-mongering franken-food people take liability for their experiments on our food supply? Suppose we graft nightshade genes to tomatos and new tomatos are hullcinagenic (both of these plants are very genetically similar) we could have hullucinogenic pizza. It seems like a bad science fiction story, except that it is actually happening. And our drug-addicted fuedal lords and masters down in Washington DC don't seem to care that they are bastardizing our food stocks. This is yet another example of why un-bridled greed makes for very bad business. How about the people who want to make bugs that when they bite you you get 'inocculated' for something else? What arrogance. There are people who believe that the mind is the key to health. They believe that we can demonstrate good health by deciding to be well and maintaining ballance and focus. The Christian Scientists are one such group. Can we morally decide that these people's points of view don't matter? Should the dominant culture demand that these people pay for research into genetically altered corn and soy 'drug-factory' food when they have a moral and religious objection to using drugs of any kind? But the money-mongering Washington and New York cartells do not care. They want more. Too much is never enough. We don't need to just anti-trust Microsoft, but Wall Street and the Federal Government as well. We should decentralize the power structures and prohibit science to be controlled by the fifth-generation money mongering elites that pass them selves off as the 'world-leadership class'. They only lead themselves. They don't care about the rest of us. Until we get them to humble down and admit that they are addicted to their power and wealth and only seek to lead because of their own avarice for power, we will continue to have the kinds of problems that we do now. We will continue to have rival power-mongering groups attack us because of our power-mongering leaders. Most Americans are good people. Most Arabs are good people. The money/power mongers of both groups all go to the same ivy-covered schools. They know who they are. And if we have a big war, they will all be off whore-mongering together while the comman man suffers. I think that I will post this one ANONYMOUS because the truth hurts and the power-mad always kill the messenger.
