  1. I'll tell you what happens.. on VoIP Providers Worry as FCC Clams Up · · Score: 4, Informative

As a Vonage customer.. I have received numerous notifications (ok, i'm lazy) to activate the E911. Just last week, I got what I perceive as threats from Vonage, claiming that if i DON'T activate my E911 service, they WILL discontinue my service immediately.

I understand their reason for pushing this, but the discontinuation is such a lazy way for them to just say "ok, so when the FCC checks us out, we don't have to worry about that guy because they won't know if he did/didn't sign up for E911".. problem solved, sadly..

This should be totally optional to the customer. If they don't want to set it up.. fine.. that's their problem, not OURS..

Vonage.. your prices are great.. your image as a company not giving into the FCC and protecting your customers.. horrible..

.. with AT&T Wireless, at least.

The day after the portability law went into effect, I headed to Verizon to get the new LG VX6000 and to switch over from ATT Wireless to Verizon Wireless.

Verizon seemed to do their part pretty quickly. Activation was quick, I was able to call out in 15 minutes. While I am able to call out on my new phone, I still (and remember, it's been a WEEK) cannot receive phone calls because ATT Wireless is taking their sweet ass time to finish their portion of the porting.

I read the law for the portability, and I expected a major loophole. No timeline or period was stated in the law claiming the maximum amount of time a company is allowed to take with the process. I've called AT&T Wireless a numerous amount of times and they keep telling me the same thing.. "Systems are down". When asked for an explanation, the representative can't even elaborate on the reason because, well honestly, i don't think they have any clue what the hell is going.

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this (I live in metro New York), but this sure as hell is frustrating. After this post I am planning to call AT&T Wireless, again, and if they dare say "systems are down" I think I'll flip out.. something I rarely do.

Radiation is around us.. everywhere.. We can't stop it. The big question on hand is, do we sacrifice technology and all its benefits for the risk of potential radition which may or may not hinder ones health and/or possibly lead to cancer?

Please don't consider this a flame, JUST because I'm opposing the view of deregulation of the VoIP.. regulation may be a necessity especially in a poverty stricken country like Senegal (with the proper and honest officials, of course)..

Regulating standards, prices, services, etc.. is crucial to build, and sustain, technological services in a third-world country.

Regulation is also important to prevent any companies from monopolizing. It may not be necessarily a problem in the beginning, but nonetheless this is a business ethic which must be regulated.

Before we even consider helping Senegal with their technology, how about we first see if we can establish a trust with Senegal and first help the country out of poverty. What good is wiring up a whole country when the majority of the population is struggling to survive with the basic needs for survival?

I really think it's a great idea and I would definitely give the go ahead, but I honestly, don't see this happening anytime soon.. and feel that we should first concentrate on the basic needs for the people (shelter, food, clothes, medicine) and humanitarian issues first..
