Wal-Mart Lindows PCs Selling Well
andyring writes "CNN.com is reporting that sales of the $199 PCs have exceeded expectations. Although CNN terms them "full fledged, if low power," it seems customers don'd mind all that much if their computer does not run Windows and doesn't carry an Intel processor. Slashdot covered two reviews of those machines July 4."
but I bought one of those boxes because it was cheap, formatted and stuck a pirated copy of windows XP on it. I wonder how many other people have done the same thing.
If anything will begin to leech some of the masses away from the M$ world, it will be these dirt cheap low end non-intel non-ms PCs selling at WalMart. If I were rich right now, I'd dump some money into supporting these companies. They may not have the whole Windowsy-seeming-end-user-linux-setup thing perfect, but they'll get there eventually. Remember that probably 70+ % of home windows users just want to read email and browse the web, and maybe write a document from time to time.

>it seems customers don'd mind all >that much if their computer does not run Windows >and doesn't carry an Intel processor. Well, that's news. If someone is desperate enough to buy a PC from walmart (I wouldn't buy it even though it has linux) then I guess Joe Average doesn't care about it as long as it can go on the "Innur-Net". But I can imagine Joe Average saying "LINdows?" is that a new version of windows? Is it newer than Windows Ecks-Pea? What does this shiny button do? Etc. Etc.
This is news? Come on...
When is big daddy $Billy G. going to buy Wal Mart. Thats news.
