Can anyone give a good reason for needing files larger than 2gb? The seek times alone withinr these files must be huge, and it smacks a bit of inefficienecy

sure its just as bad to have an app use hundreds of say 4kb files or so, but two GIGABYTES???

Well, large multi-gigabyte broadcast quality MPEG2 video files seem to be a thing I store regularily on my disks. So yeah, what the hell do I need files bigger than 2 GB for, huh?

Use Microsoft Windows NT and forget about the little things. Life is way too short to be spening it in the basement trying to get some flavor of gcc to deal with large files. You could be snowboarding instead! but you choose to sit and write a few lines of crap code instead... hm, your genes will die with you.
