Sir Isaac Newton: The world Will End In 2060

Rikardon writes "A professor at King's College in Halifax has discovered, among the papers of Sir Isaac Newton, a prediction by this 'most influential scientist who ever lived' that the world would end in 2060. Those narrow-minded souls who still believe that devout religious faith is incompatible with fervent scientific inquiry are probably unaware that Newton 'was a theologian who wrote well over a million words on Biblical subjects,' and who devoted 'something like 55 to 60 years' studying the Book of Revelation."

"Those narrow-minded souls who still believe that devout religious faith is incompatible with fervent scientific inquiry are probably unaware...." I guess I am one of the narrow minded ones, but if I may quote Bertrand Russel "Religion is something left over from the infancy of our intelligence, it will fade away as we abopt reason and science as our guidelines." Let the flames begin..

Of course, Russell also said ``I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong.'' -- and given that he was also a leading proponent of the policy of appeasement in the years before World War II, interrupting his pacifism only briefly, when in the late forties he called for a surprise nuclear attack on the Soviet Union, before reverting to calls for unilateral disarmament on the part of the west, it's a good thing too...

Whatever you believe, if you DO NOT believe in a supreme power, call it nature call it physics call it God--it doesn't matter--you are arrogant. Plain and simple. There is SOMETHING greater than all of us.

That fact that he gleaned this from studying the Bye-Bull pretty much nullifies the whole damn thing for me. Don't forget...this is the same story book that has some sort of superhero shitting the universe and everything in it out of his ass in six days or less, then wiping it's asshole clean on the seventh.

Seems about as plausible as that fat dude that makes the round-the-world trip every winter carring enough toys in his sleigh for several milion kids! Or the rabbit that does the same thing with eggs every spring. Or the tiny creature that does the teeth-for-cash thing to kids worldwide.

    Grow up, already!

Probably more correct than anything that that fucking Bye-Bull could ever predict! But then, Baby Bush believes everything in that nasty little book, and probably thinks it's a quick ticket to his afterlife, with the 77 concubines that await him...or am I confusing that with something else?
