Mozilla.org Launches Mozilla 1.3

New to this version are features like image auto sizing, bayesian junk-mail filtering, dynamic profile switching, about:config for a pretty view into all of Mozilla's "secret" settings, an initial version of Midas for rich text editing, and a lot of other fixes for performance, standards compliance and site compatability. Also with 1.3 Mozilla is now applying machine learning to improve the autocomplete feature. Mozilla 1.3 is now the official stable release from mozilla.org. I'm not complaining about Mozilla's bloat
I'm complaining about the complete arrogance of some Mozilla contributors. It seems as if having ALT text pop up as a tooltip -- a trivial matter -- is a gross violation of web standards, so you should be using instead -- effectively having two tags for the same image, if you wanted to stay standards compliant.
Changing the splash screen took THREE YEARS to resolve. After lots of wonderful contributions, kerz decided on a ugly orange screen that's aimed at "getting the distributors" to change it. Wonderful.
Maybe, by now, Mozilla will finally be a suitable replacement for Internet Explorer. (Or at least it would be, if not for all the proprietary IE-friendly bullshit that Microsoft has developed and spread for the sole purpose of ruining the web's interoperability competing browsers based on open standards. Damn Microsoft)

Principled position on the legality of war? More like principled position on the fact that they're making billions of Euros a year off the Iraqi "Food for Oil" program, even while admitting they're (improperly) paying off Saddam Hussein to allow them to handle it. They also have an extrodinarily favorable oil contract to develop fields in southern Iraq worth between 60 and 75 billion Euros.
Let's not also forget that your peace-loving French were caught selling military equipment and parts to Saddam's government in violation of the UN embargo as early as this January.
Face it: the French were bought. The Russians are in a similar position with even more lucrative contracts to develop other oil fields; plus, the current Iraqi government owes them approximately US$8,000,000,000 which may not get paid if there's a regeime change. The Germans were caught a few weeks ago shipping a freighter-full of Sodium Cyanide to North Korean.
I don't care if people oppose a war with Iraq; that's their right - at least hear in the US (try displaying a little dissent over in Iraq and see how much brain matter remains in your skull). But please stop being so blind as to think that the French, Germans and Russians are sooooo noble and peace-loving in all of this.

Actually the final version is alot faster and less bloated then previous rc candidates. Tubegirl has some benchmarks as well as html compliancy tests for mozilla 1.3.

Mozilla is more standards compliant and the image resizing is nice. Just check out the difference at this website. Notice the formating with IE and mozilla vs phoenix? This proves my point.

I have used mozilla and was disappointed at the performance and memory consumption. I have a pii 266 with only 32 megs of ram so mozilla will not do it for me.
My question is why there is no leadership at the Mozilla project . Make it lean and fast. Phoenix is NOT that fast. It's a start though.
Mozilla has gotten slowed down by trying to use this language XUL. It slows everything into the crapper. Would any commercial product be like Mozilla . I don't think so.
Mozilla and other open source projects like Staroffice need to hire leaders with vision and not make FRANKENSTEIN projects with every little doo-dad. Drop c++ and XUL and make cut the FRICKING FAT . Make the F***ING plane fly baby!
