Is this some disk space saving thing that they just had to do, or is something just borked? Sig lines were there and working fine just earlier this morning, I know because I posted a message as my regular /. user and saw my cutesy sig line there when I views my own post. Now there all gone, ALL GONE!!!!! It's a conspiracy, I tell ya.

So why pretend that now was the time? What was wrong with 1991? What was wrong with 1985? Why now?

Along with these three, I propose a new requirement for any man who would be President of this nation:
    1. You are 35 years old
    2. You are a Native-born citizen
    3. You have been a resident of the United States for at least 14 years.

You know, that response would actually be interesting towards terrorism. Can you imagine after 9/11, if the official response was "Well, those buildings were getting kinda old. Now we can replace them with bigger and better!"

Seriously. Terrorists would be dumbfounded; they'd have no point in continuing their activities. Letting terrorism provoke a violent response only affirms its effectiveness.

Of course, in reality, this course of action could not possibly be taken; violent response is 'necessary', and they know and expect that. Unfortunately, the main reason it is necessary is to avoid the appearance of being 'dickless'. Which, obviously, is never the best reason for action, and perhaps less obviously, is very ironic.

That is not to say that war is never necessary. Just that it is more 'necessary' than necessary (i.e. war, although it should be, is not currently a last resort).
