SNK Returns To The US

An'Desha Danin writes "It appears that SNK is returning to the US market for the first time since they closed down its offices in June 2000. GameDaily has the scoop. The article mentions SNK will be showing at E3 with playable versions of Metal Slug Advance and King of Fighters 2001 for Gameboy Advance. Sweetness." Also mentioned are a new version of Samurai Shodown and a 3D version (!) of Metal Slug, so, needless to say, the messageboards on Neo Geo fansites are lighting up over this news.

I love the NeoGeo games espcially Baseball Stars. At the time, there was nothing better, and I still think in certain terms it beats todays games. I mean, all the characters in the crowds look good. Id love to see them pump out something new, until then ill be playing NeoRageX :)

Baseball stars owned!! You actually typically lost if you had bad players, and won if you had good players! Unlike anything today!

That statement usually makes me cringe, let's hope its not just another FPS,

But if there is one company to keep the 2D spirit alive in a transition to 3D, it would be SNK.

It would be great to see a Metal Slug game 3D rendered but a side scroller; something along the lines of Klonoa 2 (PS2) or the upcoming Viewtiful Joe (GCN).

Well, there's always Contra: Shattered Soldier, which was a pure 2-D scrolling platform shooter done with 3-D graphics. VERY nice visually. Only failing was its obsession with unlockable content and bosses -- most of the gameplay is in boss fights, not in the actual platforming sections that comprised most of the stage in the original Contra.

If Metal Slug brings its brand of weird humor and powerups to a 3-D envrion Contra style, it could really work out nicely.

It makes me cringe worse to think of it coming out like the 3-d version of Contra that came out for the PSX (Not the 3-d rendered side-scroller). That was one of the worst games ever made.

I always thought, as far as 3d/2d scrollers go, that Squaresoft did a really good job with Einhander. I wonder why no developers have tried anything similar? It was a 3d game, but moved and fixed the camera so you always had a 2d kinda reference point. Good stuff!

The only place I can play neo-geo games these days is in the Laundrymat. I'm glad they are coming out with something new, though I hope the new Metal Slug isn't another FPS. Maybe something like Silent Scope would be fun, with multiple players. I really that type of game, but we'll see.
