HTML Rendering Crashes IE

SlimySlimy writes "According to this article on Secunia, a new IE exploit was found that crashes almost any version of Internet Explorer past 4.0 with just 5 lines of plain HTML code (no JavaScript, ActiveX, etc.). If you're very brave, you can test/crash your IE by going here." There's also a note on SecurityFocus.

Does this really surprise anyone? I mean, geez, you'd think that with a rep like MS that people would be expecting it! After all, I'm running WinME at home (No choice, it's on an IBM NetVista...my other systems run linux) and the thing crashes on almost an hourly basis.

How difficult would it be for Microsoft to simply hire a few people to do a GOOD job of testing their software? If MS used the open source concept, think of how quickly they would have their bugs found and/or fixed? Surely they should at least allow their beta testers to use the source, if for no other reason than to find simple bugs like this one and report them!

    Oooh, big roller coaster (browser).

Of course it can break (crash).

Slashdot: But the operator is drunk (it's a coding mistake in something independent of the browser).

User: Nah, it's too huge, can't ride on it.

The parser is broken in one small place in a very simple way that any coder should be able to catch.

it kind of pisses me off when they leave the blue screensaver on and tell me that I have to fix it...I've told them how to fix it--get Linux.

You're an elitist prick. You are the reason Linux is still so difficult to use. People like you are the reason other people don't want to use Linux. You think you are God, you're not. You're not even important. You are a sad, lonely, patheitc human who finds solace in dehumanizing others with your egotistical, arrogant, conceited attitude.

But please do not compare it with mature products, even if they are from Microsoft.

No offense, but many Alpha-products are perfectly comparable to ultra-mature Microsoft products like IE or MSOffice.

Especially Phoenix/Firebird/Mozilla-Browser/whateveritscalled now which is very stable at least on my installation.

Don't waste your time! The way MAC people think, it's better for a system to SLOWLY ROT AWAY because of memory-stomping and bad references than to put up an exception fault.

Remember, it's Apples OFFICIAL RECOMMENDATION to reset the ENTIRE MACHINE after an application crashes. That's because the entire system can be corrupt. (In OS1 through 9). Applications can go stomping on each other's memory with no "segmentaton faults" and stupid Apple users thought that was a Good Thing.

Anyway, you'll be happy to know that Apple's Safari (yes! I'm a Mac user, just not a crazy one) crashes all the time. In fact, there are web pages that make it crash every time. You don't see me getting my panties in a knot over this and posting to slashdot.
