Neverwinter Nights Add-On Analysed
Thanks to the nice people at Gamespot, we have an in-depth look at the first expansion to Neverwinter Nights - Shadows Of Undrentide. This add-on to the popular PC RPG title, which ships in the US on June 17th, is easily classified as 'more of a good thing', with an all-new story, prestige classes to extend your character's abilities, and the vital Bigby's Crushing Hand spell. You can find more info on the official Shadows Of Undrentide site.
I've always prefered Bigby's Expressive Hand Gesture myself.

This expansion seems to 'merely' add a bunch of classes and abilities. The extra 20 hours of game time isn't much. And perhaps I'm a tool (okay, a definite) but I just don't get much replay value out of games of this type. However, for those running a campaign, or wishing for more out of the original, this sounds like a decent expansion.

I think that games.slashdot.org is doing an excellent job so far. It's providing a service for a group that's actually interested in gaming news. Perhaps it's not the best, but you've gotta admit that browsing gaming headlines off of games.slashdot.org is a lot easier than sifting through all the ads on gamespot, gamespy, and ign. Like it or not, it's a lot easier to read under 30 comments by people who, for the most part, have something useful to say, and the experience to back it up. I hope more readers do submit articles, but you can't say those who aren't registered have given false information, who care's who's submitting it so long as it gets here. Quit whining.
Mod me as you will, but give them a break, no one is forcing you to read the site.

Have you actually read the comments? IMHO, 90% is garbage. The median number of posts per article is 17. Of those 17, 4 have a score of 3 or more. Personally I felt that two of those posts were irrelevant. When one considers the size of the Slashdot audience, and target demographic, it is quite strange to see so little activity on games.slashdot.org. I believe that the problem is caused by the low quality of stories; esp. when compared to the front page.
As it currently stands, I don't think I regularly check up the games section. I'll stick to the front page and developer section.

Witch's Wake was an interesting Mod (as in Modification, and Module) to be built out on top of the existing NWN system. It didn't really add any new classes, spells, etc - so I guess it's not really an "expansion" - but the effort put into it was over and above that of most modules released to-date for NWN.
BG2 for the PS2/X-Box looks really quite good. I was impressed with the first one as well. Nice action-game adaptation of the D&D system - great graphics, and a whole mess of fun. The only thing I wish the sequel had was network play - but I guess we'll have to wait for BG3!
