Neverwinter Nights Add-On Analysed
Thanks to the nice people at Gamespot, we have an in-depth look at the first expansion to Neverwinter Nights - Shadows Of Undrentide. This add-on to the popular PC RPG title, which ships in the US on June 17th, is easily classified as 'more of a good thing', with an all-new story, prestige classes to extend your character's abilities, and the vital Bigby's Crushing Hand spell. You can find more info on the official Shadows Of Undrentide site.
Must... resist... obvious Slashdot hand joke... ARG!!!
There are two Gamespot articles posted here just today, and neither one was submitted by a reader of this "reader-driven" site.
Forget the hand...

This expansion seems to 'merely' add a bunch of classes and abilities. The extra 20 hours of game time isn't much. And perhaps I'm a tool (okay, a definite) but I just don't get much replay value out of games of this type. However, for those running a campaign, or wishing for more out of the original, this sounds like a decent expansion.

Of course, this would be more valid if they hadn't pulled Witch's Wake from the official site....
Currently, of the 10 articles on the front page, only 5 were posted by readers. It looks like this 'simoniker' chap is running games.slashdot.org as his/her own personal slashdot.
Also, the general quality of games.slashdot.org is below par IMHO. Maybe it will get better over time as Simoniker grows a little more cynical.

Well yes :-) Technically again though, this new expansion is also pulled :-P

Witch's Wake was an interesting Mod (as in Modification, and Module) to be built out on top of the existing NWN system. It didn't really add any new classes, spells, etc - so I guess it's not really an "expansion" - but the effort put into it was over and above that of most modules released to-date for NWN.
BG2 for the PS2/X-Box looks really quite good. I was impressed with the first one as well. Nice action-game adaptation of the D&D system - great graphics, and a whole mess of fun. The only thing I wish the sequel had was network play - but I guess we'll have to wait for BG3!
