Next Generation Space Shuttles

zymano writes "Popular Science has an article about the next generation space shuttles. If you're wondering about what happened to all those cool ideas for a new shuttle and what happened to them then this story will explain it. Mentions the politics, design, costs and time for a new shuttle." There's some neat images of mockups as well.

We lead the world in technological, economic and military development, so why are we putting our people in harm's way by sending them up into space?

We are not prepared to put the proper funding needed into NASA, instead preffering to put my hard earned tax dollars into frivolities like public access television, public arts and education. With both hands tied-financially speaking-behind its' back, nasa doesn't have a chance.

So, here is my proposal: let NASA develop the theory, and let china implement it. I mean, no-one is going to miss one or eight chinese out of billions over there; and some people would feel that it's time that they contributed something to the larger global society anyways.

So, design, and redisgn; but when it comes time to send Our Boys out into space--don't! Instead, let's send some third-worlders out instead.
