TN S-DMCA Alert: Scheduling Tricks

friedtaters writes "I know some of you read about a call to action in Tennessee recently. Hopefully some of you can make it, BUT, the House Budget Subcommittee hearing that has been moved up to TOMORROW(May 20th) at 10am. This is the same day as the Senate Judiciary hearing and a day earlier than the originally scheduled time. The lobbyist and lawmaker intent on getting these bills through will use such tactics to divert attention away from the opposition. Beware and be here! Check out TNDF.net for updates."

They aren't the only ones. Massachusetts has done something similar int the past to pass a tax hike - basically sequester the entire state legislature for 20 hours. Mass has a procudural rule that a measure cannot be presented and passed in the same day (to give time for the electorate to have their views heard I assume), so they just kept everyone out of contact with the people until 12:01, declared it a new day, and put the tax hike to a vote. Nice.
