After handing out the biggest corporate tax cut / windfall in history, of course the economy is doing well. But the flip-flopping foreign policies, trade wars, war on immigration, threatening to withdraw from NATO, handing Ukraine to Russia - all of that must be giving corporations pause about investing, especially internationally.

Shit, with that corporate tax cut alone - if everything else was stable, the DOW would be at 30K by now. But everything is unstable (from the top down). So yes, I agree, the economy is doing well. Could it be a whole lot better? Hell yeah.

Funny you should ask about that - 'cause I have it right now. It's my TiVo box, which has hook ups to a bunch of streaming services - *and a "TV Guide" for all of it*. I can search for a show I want to watch, and TiVo will tell me if it's on cable in the next 2 weeks, available on NetFlix, Amazon, X-Finity, etc. All in one place, available now. I've had a TiVo for ages now (on my 3rd or 4th generation of boxes) - smartest money I've spent IMO.

  11. Someone else mentioned not letting your gas get too old - I'll second that.

Dirk, I hope you are up on cars enough to know there is summer gas and winter gas - it is formulated differently in the winter so it does not freeze up on you. Fill your tank in the summer and you may end up with a frozen fuel line in January.

Do you add fuel stabilizer at every fillup? If you don't now, maybe you should start. Or would a fuel additive like STP be better? Even I'm not really up on those.

Or easier still - NOT fill the tank, but just put 5 gallons in at a time (unless on a road trip of course). Keep fresh fuel cycling through your tank.

Anyway, I'm glad DARPA has stepped up to the plate on this - there is a reason they call things "DARPA-hard problems" - they will attempt things that are seemingly just not possible, and have no compunction with saying so in the end. But they'll have Top Men working on it. Top. Men.

  13. Oh fields! Damn what a tough course, but our prof (one of the good ones) let us create our own cheat sheets. You had 1/5 of one side of a standard piece of paper - in it you could write or draw whatever you wanted. And it got passed in with your test. You got it back though - to fill in the next 1/5 for the next test. And so on - by the finals you had the whole year one one sheet of paper. Awesome way to do it - though the tests were likely as hard as your open book ones.

NO NO NO NO NO! You have it all wrong. There are 4 players in the game theory look at medical care:
    1) The insurance company
    2) The customer of the insurance company - NOTE: That is NOT the patient. The customer is the company the patient works for. Or the Government for Medicaid/Medicare. They choose the insurance company, they are the insurance company's customer, they are the ones the insurance company needs to keep happy (enough).
    3) The patient
    4) The doctors / hospitals.

You may even want to throw in a 5th player - the pharmaceuticals. This starts to get complicated! They all have different goals. Heck include the FDA if you are including pharmas. That's 6 players!

The big problem I see is that the Customer of the Insurance Company is NOT the Patient. And never has been. Unless that becomes the case, we'll never really fix this situation.
