I, Spammer

PCOL writes "The Washington Post is reporting on testimony before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation by Ronald Scelson, an eighth-grade dropout and self-taught computer programmer from Louisiana, who claims that he sends between 120 million and 180 million e-mails every 12 hours, that he can break sophisticated software filters 24 hours after they are deployed, and that he has no choice but to resort to forging the sender information in his bulk e-mail so he can be anonymous and maintain his connection to the Internet. He added that he obtained all his addresses legally and that AOL gladly sold him the company's entire customer directory which Ted Leonsis, vice chairman of AOL, did not deny." It's a tough life. Here's another story about the Senate committee meeting.

  10. OT: How can I setup an OS X whitelist system? by Anonymous Coward · · Score: -1, Offtopic

    Okay, I've had it.

OS X Mail is great, but I'm tired of 'retraining' the damn junk mail filter and ready to move to a whitelisted system. Problem is that I don't run my own mail server and have no ability to do so because of ISP blocks.

I run OS X and use OSXMail. Is there a way that I can set it up to have my mail delievered to folders on my machine and then tell OS X mail to pickup from there instead of via POP/IMAP/etc? I seem to remember seeing someone mention this a while back, but can't remember where.

And then there's outgoing to figure out. Obviously, I'll have to use my ISP's SMTP server.

Once I have that setup, I figure that it'd be just a snap to install some type of whitelist system. My second question is: what's the opinion on a good one that'll run in OS X?

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it.
