Fallout 3 In Development?
easychord writes "RPGCodex are reporting that J.E. Sawyer has sneakily or accidentally leaked Fallout 3 concept art onto the Interweb. After the disappointing non RPG spin-offs in the Fallout universe and the confusion around Black Isle's Lionheart having the working title of Fallout Fantasy, is Fallout 3 becoming a vaporware holy grail?"
I loved the original Fallout, but I wished it was larger. It was downright one-tracked and linear. But, the second one was so huge and so complicated it was like jumping from a vacuum into a nebula, or something like that. You get my meaning. I'm bad with analogies. Plus, the Temple of Trials was soooo hard unless you picked up useless skills to get through it. I hope the third one is like the first in its difficulty curve, but like the second in its divergence and multitude of weapons. I certaintly hope this isn't only smoke and mirrors, or a graphic-upped version of F2 like the Tomb Raider games. I'll be waiting for this to hit the shelves and then put myself behind the controls of an intelligence 1 strength 10 brute again :)

I really hope that they keep the same sprite graphics, that is one of the things that made the game good, was the fact that MECHANICS took precidence over graphics and flash. The main reason I bought the series is that it was a good table-top engine.
I hope that they make the NPCs controllable during combat with the Tactics system, allowing me to control where my fat guy in a wife-beater shoots his Panzor or CAWS. The AI in Fallout2 was TERRIBLE, Vic (my npc of choice) really liked to target THROUGH my head.
Also I hope they better balance the game, so just picking high perception and agility isn't a true path to winning, everytime. If you want to win Fallout2 in under 30hours, simply tag Small Guns, Steal, and Energy Weapons, have over 8 perception, and over 9 agility. Poof. You 0wn. Make melee and hth more fruitful.
Oh... And we need more dogmeat.
(aside: I'm digging the Fallout Fantasy thing, my and my freind used to wish that Square and Black Isle would join forces, and make either Final Fallout, or Fallout Fantasy... Now through some Id into the mix, and you got Final Fallout Doom)

Fallout 2 was a fantastic game, and I really enjoyed playing through it. The one thing that really spoiled it for me though, was all of the glitches. I'm talking game essential items endlessly replicating and then disappearing here, and many other equally game-destroying things. Add this to the patches that, in my case, removed some glitches but added others (Yes I did install the correct patch) and you have quite a mess on your hands.
I'll be looking forward to Fallout 3, but this time, I hope Black Isle take the time to remove the bugs!
For those of you that need a Fallout fix now and like table top RPGs, there are pen and paper rules available at http://pnp.duckandcover.net/. They can be a bit cumbersome at times, but they seem to be pretty close to the rules from the computer games.
