RTCW: Enemy Territory Full Version Released

bani writes "Following just a month after the test release, Enemy Territory has finally made a full version release! You can download the Linux and Windows versions for free, it does not require the retail Return to Castle Wolfenstein product in order to play. Hats off to Id+Activision+SplashDamage for giving the community such an excellent 3d FPS, for FREE!" Update by J : Id has set up a BitTorrent for the downloads. And if anyone needs a Mac beta-tester, I'm available :)

If it runs under Linux, then you can get it to run under Debian using binary hardware emulation and an ordinary hex-editor.

Oh, OK. The reason I was asking is that I've been told many times by the friendly folk on #debian that it isn't actually Linux, it's GNU/Linux. I wasn't sure if they were the same thing.

I was an early beta-tester for this game, and I regret to report that this is yet another game that you'll need to keep your Windows partition around for.

Believe me, I'm an expert at optimizing my Linux machine - why, I just graduated from Redhat school last month!

At any rate, the Linux version is just plain SLOW. The Windows version, on the other hand, is a joy to use...

Is there something wrong with the Linux kernel that makes it so difficult to write games for? Should linux try to copy DirectX maybe?
