Play Counter-Strike For Real

An anonymous reader writes "Fradley Airfield, England; A group of obsessive Counter-Strike fans are attempting to recreate one of the game's most popular maps, de_dust, for real. When the MDF masterpiece is complete, hopefully late this summer, the site will be used by paintballers dressed as Counter-Strike players who will battle it out over 4-5 weekends worth of paint splattered mayhem. A petition campaigning for someone to accurately recreate DOAX: Beach Volleyball is expected to be up and running within the week."

    After all these years, it turns out the only way to keep wallhackers out is to get some server side security in the form of reality.

    Cheers for the effort, although I think you'll still get people bunny-jumping.

      considering the physical conditioning of the average CS player, I doubt you'll be seeing much bunny-hopping.

      I didn't think of that.. This could spawn new types of cheats.

      * The 'sit around and wheeze behind a box' evasion technique.
      * Cellular Phone + Binoculars 'ghosting'
      * 'Throw up from being winded' diversion

      What suckers are going to play the hostages?

      Will shooting them out of spite lose you points?

    They should have picked de_vertigo. Then I could take the bomb and throw it off the edge of the map. Or as_oilrig. Just for the novelty of building an oilrig.

    Thinking about it, it seems it would be very difficult to reconstruct any CS map realistically at all. in Dust, I could see maybe recreating the area where the CTs start, but to do the entire map would be a huge expense to do it correctly. I mean, how would you create the bridge? Are they actually building a stone bridge? While they're at it, have them do de_cbble, I'd like to see the sniper tower they'd build. ;-)
