Who Opposes Open Source Software In Government?
Skapare writes "Linux Journal is doing a story with a roundup of who the players are that are opposing open source in governments. The one I find interesting is the Gates connection to BSA. But I think we all need to become familiar with this round-up of special interest groups not operating in our interests (as taxpayers)."

What kind of computer should I buy? Would Apple Mac be a good choice? When I am at work and I try to post here it says this:
You can't post to this page.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
Better sign up at ITT Tech for that Linux+ course buddy.
OpenBSD is very secure out of the box but as soon as some semiskilled admin starts installing stuff and setting stuff up then it can end up as secure as an average Win98 install. Although I would imagine that it probably depends on the admin I would suspect that once it is configured and deployed the average OpenBSD box in no more (or less) secure than the average NetBSD or FreeBSD or Linux box.
I never said I depended on up2date. I said I subscribed to security update mailing lists. BTW those usually come out before the patch. You're missing my point tho. The parent thread said "Linux is secure, secure, SECURE." implying something the majority of *nix users adhere to & end up being one of the compromised machines trying to get into my network & trying to send email via open relay.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one the bus load of girls just went down.
hey cat byte,
how come you read his paragraph differently then me.
his point is microsoft has exploit bugs, linux has exploit bugs....and that the difference is how they are handled. microsoft has admitted to not putting them at highest priority in the past.
MS would rather hide the fact that there's a new exploit.
MS takes their sweet time on releasing information and fixes for new exploits.
Linux has the same number of exploits (or more)...but is handled in a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MANNER.
so you got some bug fixes from Redhat. so what. and???
here's the real deal:
1. you didn't even understand the parent poster's point.
2. i run freebsd, os x, redhat, 2k & xp. i don't see your point. do you really have one? read your post again.
3. no where did the parent poster state that he thought "linux doesn't have holes"...so why do you harp on this straw man argument? why do you invent parent-poster-argument and then counter the argument you created yourself?
i see no one here that thinks linux or opensource software does not have holes, bugs or exploits.
but i do see a lot of people who definitely recognize the difference in the way that the problems are handled.
and then i see you.

Hey! I'm sorry I'm too busy participating in projects with dozens of people, many of which involve drinking afterward, to actually talk about how the 2½ years we've lived together should be dealt with at the moment. If i had time i would give a shit, but right now i can only write half ass emails and spend 40 minutes with you and some tea on opposite ends of the couch watching bad television without dialog. Hope this, somehow, helps you understand how i am doing. Here's hoping my friend's don't move to tiwan and i have a shitty night shift job. If that happens i'm pretty certain I can score a place to live for free while i do my own projects like inviting all my friends over for condo sessions, because i know all the effort i am currently putting in creating distance between us will somehow be rewarded with a strong forgiving presence, since your needs on what constitutes our relationship is my enemy.
Yours truly, wasted years living followed by even more wasted years of regret.
Anyways, there's no accountability in a forum like this. Sure, you can tie my messages together by my handle, so what? You still can't scowl at me as we pass in the hallway, or fire me, or loan me power tools. It's pretend-world.
