SMS SPAM to be Banned Down Under?

mickers writes "news.com.au reports that in Australia, phone companies which allow SMS spam to be sent across their networks face fines of up to A$10 million under a new industry code.." Are people having a huge problem with SMS spam yet, or is this sort of action more pre-emptive?

No such problem here. And I don't think it will ever be. Australians are generally stupid (see the Iraq case) and they want to do things to impress the rest of the world because they think they're just a lonely island in another planet.

OK, this is one of the most ingorant things I've ever read. I'm Australian, and I was against the war. In fact, almost every poll showed that the majority of Australians were opposed to the war in Iraq. The problem is that our government has the power to send troops without asking parliament. Yes, it's a stupid system.
