They sell studable winter tires, although in many places they are illegal, for the reason you pointed out, plus they destroy the pavement. On the up side, if you can use them, I hear you can stick to ice as if it were pavement. Though with modern winter tires, even 10" of snow isnt a major issue even for most vehicles. I have only had issues in my corolla with Gislavid winter tires when the snow was high enough to start coming up the hood and over the windshied. If i stopped I couldnt get moving forward again wthout reversing and making a running start at it.

The first thing I thought, and I have thought the idea of analyzing traffic flow on a wide scale could give the individual an edge, as soon as the masses know the way around traffic, the jam will just move. So unless this algorithm can automatically figure out where traffic is stuck, and route the users in many different ways, this will eventually not work. Not to mention that in many cases (ie try entering downtown toronto from etobicoke), there are only so many ways to go. In my example you have some side streets, bloor, eglington, gardiner, lake shore. But they all suck, and if you suggest the small residential roads, you'll probably sit just as long waiting to turn from road to road. I've tried. But if it helps at all its worth it imho, its not my money!

    1. when driving you should be monitoring what is going on behind you as well as in front. That is, when your stopped waiting for something you should have left yourself an escape route, whether it is a side walk, or yard, and watch all around your car. If you should happen to see a car coming behind you its trivial to then move into your safe area. Why this is so difficult for 99% of the population to understand is beyond me. It has saved me from being involved in several accidents, just like not tailgating the person in front of you does when they stop suddenly.

Legally it is partially your fault when you are rear ended for not having moved or even noticed the car was coming. I know of several people in ontario who have even received demerit points for failing to avoid, and been fined upwards of 1000$, while sitting oblivious at a red light.

But coming up with class interfaces and the overall breakdown of the code before writing it, will result in code that is much more modularized and reusable, not to mention easy to write. That and practice makes perfect. Shit my code from 6 mo's ago is horrifying, and in 6 mo's I'll say that about what I'm writing now. Practice, practice, practice. The only other thing I can suggest is find a team you enjoy working with. Even if the code is not pretty, at least you can have a good time at work.
