Kiss You Through The PS2 Chu-Lips
Thanks to GamePro for covering the news that Natsume have picked up the U.S. distribution rights for the Japanese PlayStation 2 RPG adventure Chu-lip. According to the article about this 'unique' title, "As a young boy who's just moved into the town of Tsurukame, you must build up your street cred in a quest to impress the woman of your dreams - the thing is, and the story behind this is a little complicated, you must do this by kissing as many of the town's inhabitants as possible." The aim of this very bizarre game is apparently to "work out the daily schedule of each townsperson (or towns-creature), and what he or she wants from you in exchange for a kiss."
Ok, I guess it doesn't count much on games.slashdot.org, but still. FP niggaz! Anyways, how does natsume expect to really sell this game in America? Super wierd japanese games usually don't do very well on this side of the Pacific. Though I really wish Vib Ribbon would have made it over, as well as probably 100s of other games. I mean, who in the states is gonna think this game is cool other than maybe perhaps the weird japanese game fanboy cult? Nevertheless, this is a good trend that seems to be on the rise. Companies make games with translation in mind, a small handful of people translate the game, and everyone wins. So what if the game only sells 50,000 copies here in the States. That surely would at least pay a couple of people to translate it and make some profit for Natsume. I'd really like to see this continue. I think that dating games would probably do pretty well here, with the possible exception of games featuring heads in plant pots. (something tells me that isn't the only pot that was going around) Just some thoughts and FP my biznitches! zosX
