    If you are using a regular distribution, all of the sound modules are already compiled for you.. unless you distribution is that shoddy. I dont know of any distros that are like that. Every one I encoutered had everything compiled.

    Well then, I'll note that I recently installed RedHat 9 on a machine with two NICs, an Intel PRO 100S and some Accton. Only the Intel NIC was detected--no sign of the Accton except for a brief mention in /proc/pci. Eventually, I found out that I was supposed to use the 8139too module. That module is included with RH9, so why wasn't the card detected automatically? It's because your gay, and Red Hat has a failsafe for gay people, it won't work, so gay people can't taint the good reputation Red Hat has. If you want a gay machine use a Mac. There have many curves and holes to shove your dick through.
