Open Content and Value Creation

Magnus Cedergren writes "Which are the driving forces behind the creation of Open Content? What value is created? That is the major questions I try to answer in my paper in the journal First Monday. I would like to thank all you people participating in my study in different ways."

There is a better article about open content on Yahoo.

This article also has some visual aids too.

Motivations in non-monetary forms play a crucial role in the creation of open content value chains and value.

I do not know what it means to be an American because I am from Mars. On Mars we don't have any houses or teachers. All you do on Mars is ride around in Space Bubbles like in Radioactive Man. You never have to go home on Mars because your Space Bubble is like your house. It's got a TV and a big refrigerator which makes whatever food you feel like eating. The other thing about Space Bubbles which isn't in the comic books is that you can do tricks like flipping it upside down or on its side while you're flying at a gazillion miles an hour. Also, there is no school on Mars. That is what it means to be an American.

Although it is true about the hot grits thing, simply speaking, content *IS* value and the main thing about running OpenBSD, FreeBSD, or even NetBSD is that goatse.cx was created as Open content and while perhaps in Soviet Russia, pants get poured into hot grits, the obverse is not necessarily true. The Microsoft connection is obvious and nothing, I repeat NOTHING that Natalie Portman is doing on the Linux front will change this.
