New Microsoft Mouse Scrolls Both Ways

Library Spoff writes "The BBC are reporting that Microsoft are bringing out a mouse that will use the scroll wheel to tilt as well as roll. The innovation means that users will be able to scroll vertically as well as horizontally without using on-screen navigation bars." How long before I get a trackball embedded in my mouse?

WOW! What a wild and radical new advancement in technology! This is going to alter the landscape of computing! Things will never be the same again! The Information Age has just evolved!

Geez editors, this isn't techtv.com, you don't have to write adverts for Microsoft. Taco, how much do you earn for ads like this by the way?

Yes. Interestingly enough, when the patent was made public a couple months ago, a CNN.com pundit actually made the insightful prediction that Microsoft would follow in Apple's shoes. I hope you find this informative.

I wish I could do this on my Macintosh with my generic two-button scoll mouse.

Oh, wait (holds down command key) I can scroll horizontally. In any application. With no new drivers, equipment, or fuss.

Yay for Mac OS X, I guess. What's the big deal again?

It sounds like M$ is going to try to copy IBM's method of horizontal scrolling. If they are, DO NOT BUY IT! I already use something like this at work, the IBM Scrollpoint II. I just have to say, ACK! It doesn't have a wheel, it has a nub like they have on laptops but with an indent in the middle so you tilt it left or right. I knew from the start that I'd miss the wheel for vertical scrolling but I thought the tilting 4 way nub would be great for things like spreadsheets and databases. It's horrible, the scrolling is jumpy, I've never managed to get to the right cell/field and in excel its terrible because I always end up at cell 3894 or AAC instead of 92 or R like I wanted. DON'T EVER buy one of these things.

Whats so hard about ctrl+esc r?

I have never understood the point of the windows key, at most it saves one keystroke. It provides no extra functionality.

PS I know there is no such mod as CORRECT. However, that doesn't mean that there shouldn't be.

I believe that the INFORMATIVE mod already provides for that. If it's CORRECT and not PERTINANT, it's OFFTOPIC. If it's not CORRECT and is PERTINANT, it's a TROLL. If it's a random GUESS or a strange IDEA and is PERTINANT, it's INTERESTING. If it's a random GUESS or a strange IDEA and it's not PERTINANT, it's OFFTOPIC. If it's CORRECT and PERTINANT, it's.... you guessed it! INFORMATIVE

The omnipresent TROLL mod is also apparently for things that are OFFTOPIC but sick, or things that are CORRECT AND PERTINANT, but you disagree with. FLAIMEBAIT is a deprecated mod held over from the days of when people cared.

    Hope that helps.

Well, no wonder you reformed. The windows key is the most positively useful GUI tool on the keyboard! It provides two keystroke access to many of the most common functions:

    Window-R: Run menu
    Window-S: Search menu
    Window-M: Minimize everything
    Window-E: Windows Explorer
Window-D: Expose desktop (as in, hides windows marked always on top, for hiding porno when the boss is around)

The window key does so much more than just open the start menu. I can't believe that you didn't think to look into it more...what kind of a developer are you that you don't do research before reacting irrationally towards a minor inconvenience?

Oh wait. You're in IT now, aren't you?
