MilenCent writes "The O'Reilly Network posted an interview with super-deluxe Nethack variant SLASH'EM's Warren Cheung and J. Ali Harlowe last month talking about the impending beta release of v0.0.7E2. (Don't you just love incredibly provisional version numbers? In development for years and not even a 0.1 yet!) There's another recent O'Reilly article on the game too."

    The concept of a proxy window interface is relatively simple: the game runs as one process and the window interface runs as another, separate process. They may perhaps even run on different machines. But they need to talk to each other using a mutually-understood protocol.
    Be careful about that proxy. One day I left it open to the Internet, and someone can found it and rooted my dungeon. Scribled junk on the floors and everything. So I had to redo it. It was a good dungeon, but not as good as the first one.
