Spammer Ducks For Cover

rabidgremlin writes "The New Zealand Herald has an article about a NZ based spammer who has shut up shop after being at the receiving end of an anti-spam campaign. Good riddance I say, but some of his comments ("never intended to break any regulations" and "I'll just stick to search engines and web sites - that's still plenty of fun and money.") had me wondering if he and other spammers are as really naive as the article makes out."

I guess I must be naive too because I didn't know there were any regulations against spam. I guess I should inform the people spamming me that they are breaking the law. Thanks for the tip.

Well, cry me a river. I'm sure that there are 5-year olds out there whose parents were a bit concerned about their kids receiving penis-enlargement emails and links to porn websites.

How many 5-year olds do you know with an email address, let alone the ability to operate a computer?

You cry when someone sends you 1 or 2 spams a day, but then you go ahead and cheer on the people who do stuff like this? That's fucking unbelievable. Have you no sense? It's hypocrisy like this that's going to keep spam a problem forever.

This is an obviously modified version of the original, if anyone mods this up, you aren't very bright.

Spammers aren't all evil malicious people, some of them just have no idea what they're doing. Like a guy I know, who is not the most net savvy person in the world, but can get around, was working on some kind of upstart e-business, so he figured he'd get this traffic building software, which basically was just a spamming utility, that would send a promotional email to thousands of email addresses which were stored on a couple CDs.
The manual claimed that all of the people had signed up as being interested in recieving information about business oppurtunites, but I doubt that even 5% had any desire at all to hear about "business oppurtunities." My friend didn't have any idea that what he was doing was "spam" ("I'm not selling any of that canned ham stuff."), and that he was becoming the bane of the internet, he just thought it was a legitamit way to advertise.
I'm not saying that all spammers are like that, I know that some of them are pure evil, but some people just don't understand...
