    Except in this case, they aren't giving you a CD-R to replace the one they damaged. They're giving you an unwritable CD, that only costs $0.12

    The issue is that the replacement system is of *lesser* spec than some of the models that were replaced. We're not even talking equivalent models that have since been upgraded. In my case, I lose 2GB RAM, 1 entire core, and the quality/(comparative real-world) speed of the CPU is lower.

    I've watched a good deal of the calculus videos. They are very good. He does a great job explaining things.

    I even donated a few bucks. I suggest doing the same. It's well worth it.

    At one point, Richard Garriott declared himself to be ruler of the moon, based on him being the only non-government entity to own anything physically on the moon.

    It's a shame he doesn't make that claim more public.

    I'm not familiar with how Switchvox determines the strength of a password, however...

    It should strike everybody here as obvious that '1234' on an account '1234' would be a poor password. I could say with some confidence that 'apple' would be universally considered to be a poor password, just based on it being a common dictionary word.

    Unfortunately, there are many people who don't share this understanding. It most certainly isn't unique to VoIP.

    I think you're missing a key difference. I can stop working on my pet project at any time I want (just like I can choose to stop flying RC planes if I want). If I choose to spend 80 hours a week writing software I enjoy doing for free - great. But if an employer is going to dictate how I'm going to spend my "free time", they're going to pay me for it.

    I worked on software at a very large mortgage bank doing parsing of 3270 connections ("green screens") that had several thousand users. We had to rely heavily on field positions using X,Y coordinates. 10/06/03 was when they switched to 10-digit loan numbers from 7-digit ones... Care to guess what happens when you add 3 characters to a screen with 0 room available? More interestingly is what happens when you don't have access to the testing systems before the change goes live. We got a phone call or two that morning...

    My Ubuntu 8.10 box hung last night. I had a friend check IM logs... He's on Atlantic (GMT-400) time. Weird. (08:05:33 PM) qwell: that was random (08:05:41 PM) qwell: box just...froze (08:05:47 PM) qwell: wasn't even doing anything O.o

    As an Asterisk developer, and Digium employee, I felt that I should point out that we're not just selling "super-geeky hardware" anymore.

    I'll go ahead and take the karma hit for a shameless plug here.. As of fairly recently, we also have an SMB appliance, and with the recent acquisition of Switchvox - the times are certainly changing (not just for Digium, but for the Asterisk community as a whole).
