SuSE CEO's Two-Distro World
FrankoBoy writes "CRN has an interview with SuSE CEO Richard Seibt in which he claims such things as 'Linux means two companies: Red Hat and SuSE, and nobody else.' Another example of this kind of corporatespeak can be found in another interview he did with ZDNet last week. DistroWatch has an article about all this in its current weekly newsletter."
about recommending SuSE to Linux newbs.
A blog like any other.
Right now, when Linux needs to unite more than ever because of the FUD SCO is releasing, here comes this guy saying stuff like that. Maybe he should go read the cathedral and the bazaar.
Call on God, but row away from the rocks.
Wouldn't it be something if you realized that Gentoo was nothing more than an attempt to mimic FreeBSD with a Linux kernel...
What would happen if you then realized that FreeBSD outperforms linux in nearly all real world tasks?
What if you realized that FreeBSD, like NetBSD and OpenBSD, are both better organized and significantlly cleaner than any Linux distribution, with documentation that makes Linux look amateurish?
Well, it's true, so now ask yourself this: why, again, are you using Gentoo, instead of the "best tool for the job," no matter what that job might be?

Gentoo is a waste of time to professional, i.e. the real users, of Linux. We don't need some distribution that's cobbled together by some pimply-faced 17-year old social reject living in his parent's basement.
The 1 ms speed increase on loading your porn is not worth the days of wasted time compiling.
Gentoo is garbage.
Gentoo is most certainly a company dick head.
I'm also not sure what he means by "company", because as far as I'm concerned Gentoo Technologies, Inc. has the legal status and enough products for sale to qualify as a company... and the only Linux company that has made any money off me is Mandrake.
perl -e 'print $i=pack(c5, (41*2), sqrt(7056), (unpack(c,H)-2), oct(115), 10)'
Heres some of the reasons a debian zealot will give you for using their out of date turd, read and learn.
1. Debian gnu/linux....
Translation, stallman uses this distro, note the gnu/ part. Why don't we have gnu/OS X? (because it uses gnu software)
2. Debian is free.
Free as in you have to listen to our worthless political debates from wannabe drones who failed polotics 101.
3) Debian is stable...
And obsolete
4) Debian supports hardware from 80386-SX up.
They forgot about usb, firewire, cardbuss support. And recompiling a kernel is NOI an option
5) All the best developers use debian...
WRONG. Slackware was the choice, now its gentoo. Because developers actually like to USE their software (pun intended).
6) We advocte the benifets of our os.
Yeah, by modding anti debian posts down because we have our heads stuck up our assen.
7) Debian has excellent supp..RTFM OR GO BACK TO LOSEDOS N0OB
8) Debian has loads of users.
Yeah, as many as the population of Antartica users.
9) Debian is for redhat refugees
And Gentoo is for Debian refugees
10) We have easy package mangement
Somebody bludgen them with dselect please!
So, there you have it. I have had a bitter taste with the debian community, so don't try and "correct" me, i KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ANBOUT, and dont censor this post by modding it down either or I will shitstorm it.
part of that United Linux thing? Wonder what happened to them.
Remember, SuSE was in bed with SCO.
Personally, I wouldn't trust SuSE's CEO to make very good business partners or decisions. His comments carry little weight with me.
Why? It's pretty well-known that SuSE is no friend of Free software... its close business ties with SCO are but one example, and its bullshit licensing for YAST is another.
The only people who can't see SuSE for what it really is, are the KDE devotees (who are too damned stupid to see any license fucking) and the long-time SuSE users.
Interested in sharing this time....
