How Objective Is Microsoft's Search?

bot writes "There have been a number of stories on Microsoft trying to do a 'Netscape' on Google.. what would a world in which Microsoft provides search look like? A search for 'linux' on msn.com give amazon and ebay as the top two results, and a microsoft site promoting migration from Linux to Windows as the fourth listing. A search on MSN India is even more amusing -- the top result is a dead link, and the second one is Linuxsucks.com."

Google, at least, does a much better job separating the sponsored links from the results

And they only started doing this under pressure from people who figured out what was going on. Google is a souless company, just like all the others.

you my friend are an idiot.

if people don't know the difference, they won't know the difference whether they searched for linux or for anything else.

This isn't specific to linux. If you type in viagra the first few results will also be ads.

    No conspiracy

If any of the linux companies were making any money and had a sustainable business model they would probably take out an ad on MSN as well. As it is, the fact that a search for say McAfee gives a paid listing for McAffee, but the only person who cares to bid on linux is ebay is only the open soruce zealots fault, and not ms's.

Same as certain Encyclopedia, depends on your slant. Someone shot the gopher and wood chucks and now the cayotes will starve! Dumb shits, then the cayotes just eat your pets for lunch, and life moves on. Then came the .NET strategy, selective objectivity and tons of advertising propaganda. No search engines do not need to be objective. It just pisses me off that the noble part of the net can so easily screwed around by one company! "Where do you want to go today" don't even bother to ask these jackasses will be able to tell you better than google anyday, any bets .NET gets prioritised. And I poor sucker am stuck with supporting a .NET before I can even get an address.
