Hybrid/Electric Vehicles: Should I Buy?
nissin writes "I'm ready to buy my first vehicle, and would like to hear your experiences with either hybrid or electric vehicles. Are they a good alternative to conventional vehicles, or just a geek toy? Do they perform well in the city? How about on long road trips? I am also interested in hearing about other alternative, yet practical, forms of transportation that I may have missed."
Get a Segway! I hear these are great and even the President of the US has one!

REALITY:
There is only one choice:
Alfa Romeo.
*Trust* me on this one, chicks will come out of the woodwork to be with you. Men will tip their hats and police will let you go if you are speeding (all of this is true, my own personal experience)
A buying tip: Whatever model Alfa, buy the last model year of that car, the Italians will have ironed out all the bugs by then.
I put over 250,000 miles on my 1985 Alfa GTV6
150,000 on my 1977 Alfa GTV
150,000 on my 1992 Alfa Spyder
You can't go wrong!
So rise up, all ye lost ones, as one, we'll claw the clouds.
Careful you spell your name right, nissin, else someone may come knocking on your door.
Just don't get the cheap ones that have only a forwards and back (back/turn) control on the remote control. And spring for rechargeable batteries and a recharger. You'll be glad in the long run.
I got almost no beef with SUVs in montana. An Escalade with spinner rims in LA is a completely different story. The only time those things go off road is when they bounce over the curbs at the airport.
You dumb ass. The fact that you drive a LX470 just shows how incredibly stupid and status conscious you are. You could have bought a Toyota Landcruiser for $15000 less and got the exact same car.

June 3, 2001 :-) I promise ya. OK well my name is Marisa but I
wish I had a kewl nickname like sumtin real kewl I could put on the back of a pretty sweatshirt and everyone would read it and think,
"Man, she must be neat-o!" That would be lovely. Umm... my sis got a lil kitty kat for her b-day & we named her Kuma which means BEAR in Jappish. She's waaaaaaay cute. yeah.
Hiyas!! Who knew Sunday nights could be so DULL? For Pete's sake I could be watching wrestling or a TV movie but nooooooooo, mean ole God doesn't want that. >:( This time my diary is going to be brand new for real.
Tonight's sunset was to die for, I wish you had been there. I'm going to drop out of the band I'm in. I love ya guys but my sis and I don't like it anymore and you're all to saddypoo for me. Maybe when you guys get more coordination musically we'll be better but for now I need a break. Still love yas, maybe we could start a riotgal band with a trombone or some bizarre instrument like... maybe a bassoon or somethin'!! That would be wonderful. Would anyone care to volunteer? I'm sick of lounging around on my tummy, let's play!

Hiyas!! The Mariners are so great, it makes me all tingly inside my tumtum and seeing them win all those games and kicking everyone's fanny is soooooo nice. Well other than that I've been working in a library, and it's so boring. >:( I pulled a muscle. WORKING IN THE LIBRARY! Can you believe that, that's stupid and stupider at the same time. It's almost the end of the school year and the seniors are graduating mostly, it's so crazy. These kids I just met who are soooooooo cool are leaving and they just up and move across the country or sumtin. Love yas I'm just jealous I'm gon' be stuck here for another three more years.
JUNO ON FRIDAY I LOVE ASHER AND KEVIN and they are coming with me and it's going to be so great and Asher has an LJ too. Read it!! Read it!! Also I quit another band with the singer Brent he's soooo great. It was a waste of my time. The guitarist, bless his heart. was fuming. Sorry but it was hilarious! Juno makes me tingly too.
Bowling is great, I want to write all about it. I'm horrible but I get a few nice turns each game I play. Emily and I went to Spin Alley yesterday and bowled three games. She's so great. Sam charged us $1.50 which was totally cool 'cuz it was way way more than that. Thanks Sam love yas. I hope you don't get fired. Anyway, bowling is great, and Sunday girls get to bowl free 'cuz we're so adorable and lovely!!! I'm going to go bowling again on Sunday. Bowling is great.

Pete Yorn. Oh my gosh, have you heard him? I don't know what it is about him but his music is so beautiful and wonderful and catchy and nice and I just love it. Like Juno! Oh and the show was great too, the new Kirkland teen center is amazing. There's a big huge stage a cafe and a PATIO for Heaven's sake. There's a patio in the teen center! But that's Kirkland you know.
I was down there again today to see my pal Stu's band play and it was for some church thing so I had to hit the road. Love ya Stu. Anyways after that I went to eat pizza. I felt bloated but it's OK because then I rolled down the hills for exercise and yelled at hot sk8bois! That was fun. We probably talked about everything from lip rings to tongue piercings which everyone knows is for sucking cock. Oh and some other stuff too.
Wait! I have to tell you how much fun I had with Asher last week, he's so great. We went to the teen center and when we finally found the place I found out KILL SADIE was there, I was in Heaven. We saw some dumb opening band and then rolled down this big big hill outside where I lsot my pa's cell but it's OK because we found it, thanks guys love ya!
Of course, when Nazi German separated religion and politics, people died in the gas chamber.
One of the problems with gas prices here in the US is the government subsidies. I'm not talking about direct money, but how many wars have been paid for by everyone to go to war to keep our gas prices low and alternatives out of the market? If we started counting defense-of-oil-interests in the cost of oil, I think we'd start to see some serious alternatives on the market.
I wouldn't be suprised if riding around on something like a segway is actualy more environmentaly friendly then riding a bike, due to polutants caused by burning more calories. Especialy if you used a wind-mill to charge up the segway :P
autopr0n is like, down and stuff.
Can we please be a little more mature in these threads??

Great mileage: You can drive it like a j-random normal 5-speed can and get about 63.5 MPG (3.7 L/100km). With a little practice and following some standard tips you can get a lot more. I usually get about 750 miles to 900 miles (about 1200 km to 1450 km) on a 11 US gal (41.6L) tank (68.1 MPG to 81.9 MPG == 3.45 L/100km to 2.87 L/100km).
Good pep: Pushed 108 MPH on a test track. Could have gone a bit higher but test track conditions were not the best. (Hint: your mileage suffers at that speed, so I don't recommend it that fast :-)).
More than enough zip to make it onto a
freeway with a short on-ramp.
Fun to drive. I love the idle stop feature (engine turns off under certain conditions). The digital display panel is well designed and can give you good feedback (out of the corner of you eye) what works
People really notice it, even after 2+ years. When gas prices in California push their way towards $2/Gal (and beyond :-( ), I
start to get a lot more people asking about it.
I highly recommend a visit to the www.insightcentral.net for detailed info on the Honda Insight, pictures of internal guts, tips and tricks owner forum, mileage database, etc.

Who the hell modded my comment down from 3 to 2 as "overrated"? I provided a lot of useful, interesting information for many people. What a dick you are.
WTF? I started out at +3 insightful, and now am at 0 insightful? wassmatta? you couldn't think of anything useful to say so you just modded me down based on your own inability to deal w/ your lack of an SUV or PENIS? fine, come on then, mod this one down too :) i don't care, I got Karma to spare.
